shell-less eggs under roost now a lethargic hen

if you knew which hen does it, supplementing her with some liquid calcium for a month would be an interesting experiment. I notice several of mine don't eat the oyster shell at all, and it makes me wonder if i should be doing something else. In your case it does sound like she has a damaged reproductive system, poor girl.

I agree, that would be an interesting experiment. I suspect it wouldn't change much but I'd give it a shot just in case. Unfortunately though, I really don't know which hen is doing this.

Hey there, I too have a hen who laid an egg with no shell, fully intact yolk until she turned around and ate it right away. I happened to walk into the coop right as she laid this egg otherwise I would never have known it was an issue with her. This hen has been a bit of a problem child from day one. She doesn’t look as healthy as the rest, always has caked feathers at her rear end. She didn’t lay an egg for a few weeks, then laid again about every two days, then the egg with no shell, now nothing. Her poop doesn’t appear normal either. The day after the weird egg she was very lethargic, and laid in one spot all day. She didn’t eat as much but did drink quite a bit. The last two days she has perked up a bit, but not completely back to normal. I’m at a loss... no eggs from her yet... beats me. Hoping she pulls through. I did lose one hen to Mareks in February so I was worried this was her issue but her symptoms don’t match that of the other hen I lost. Time will tell I guess!
