SHE'S BROODY!!!!! (formally A problem with my muscovy's nest)

I think what you planned on doing is a good idea. Shes a sweet little girl! How old?

How are those rouen ducklings of yours? Cute I bet!

Today is the 2nd day that she sat on the nest for most of the day. From what I understand, she'll stop laying when she is determined to set and officially go broody.

I'm just wondering because she is still laying, at least as of this morning. I have heard of muscovy hatching up to 20 something babies, I don't know that she could cover that many. I was thinking removing the older eggs that have been sitting there would be better.

Usually they stop laying once they go broody or mine do. As they are laying they will go in every once in a while and sit but not for long. I ended up throwing the eggs from my first time layer away she isn't being consistant yet. I trhink I would remove the older eggs so the newer laid ones will hatch at the same time.

Yeah, I would remove the old egg. They probably would go bad.

I wouldnt let her sit on to many since this is her first time sitting.

Good luck.

Well, she hasn't left her nest yet today. I did remove her to see if she is still laying and there are now 14 eggs under her! So, she is still laying. I am now letting my drake out in the yard (when my schedule permits it) and leaving my hen (and my 6 Rouen ducklings) in the duck run so my chickens can't disturb her.

My rouens are 4 weeks and 2 days and have been sharing the duck run (with a fence between the two) for 3 weeks. My muscovy pair would sit and watch them for hours. A few days ago I figured I would see how my hen would respond to them and it did not go well. She ran after them grabbed one and pulled out some down. I am thinking that integrating them may take longer since she is broody.

At least I have enough space to keep them seperated. I don't dare try to intro my drake to them yet.

But anyway, I'm gonna have ducklings in around 1 month from now!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!!

Thanks Miss Lydia. I am really looking forward to it.

On a different note, I decided to take the Rouens on a walk around the yard today. I got myself a long thin stick just in case my drake caused any problems. He reacted alot better than I thought he would. He kind of chased one but then they ran away from him but he did not go after them. I am mom to them so they just follow me which in this case is a bery good thing. I am hoping he will be a good dad and I won't have to seperate him because I don't know where I would put him. If I build something else in the backyard DH will probably no longer be DH.

Right now I have the chicken coop and run ( about 8 X 8), the duck run ( 10 X 15 ) and a pen for my meaties ( 7 X 7 ). I am only in the suburbs and have a good size yard for here but it is still just a yard.

I hope he's a good dad.

My drake didn't seem to mind the ducklings, he was more interested in spending time with mama, I think as long as you let them out where the ducklings can run from him if needed it will be okay just don't pen them up together.
