Wow -- this is an old thread!
FWIW, Gertie is in charge of the flock these days. She squats when I walk near so she's really quite easy to pick up (I guess that means that technically, I'm in charge of the flock...) Amazing how things change. OH, and I eventually got them treat-trained to go in when I ring a bell.
Gertie is still a little nuts but she lays some beautiful eggs and has animated chicken conversations with anyone who will listen.
