(NO NO NO NO NO! I WILL NOT LET THIS THREAD DIE!!!)

It took another hour before the skies were clear of enemy planes, but now The Deep Endeavor and The Lucky-13 were finaly able to return to the camp. Connie's plane had gotten banged up some, but Seth's was worse off. The Endeavor was riddled with holes from nose to tail and was limping back on only 2 engines, the left engine trailing thick, black smoke. Tail gunner Cole Perkins had been hit 3 times in his right arm. The bones were broken in several places, and he had lost control of his body from the blood loss; weirdly enough, he was still conscious, but it appeared that he was very much dead. The left wing and engine had been hit hard enough that Seth was forced to shut off the left engine completely to keep from setting the wing on fire, due to the fact that there was a small but steady leak in the fuel tanks in the left wing. In addition to that: the Sensors and the nose turret were knocked out, the landing gear was damaged but still worked (barely), and the bomb-bay doors were jammed open. Those things could all be fixed, but there was one more thing that couldn't be. As the planes touched down and rolled into the hanger, Seth and the others stepped down from the planes with heavy hearts. They took Jimmy and Cole out first. Cole was awake and the whole time that Seth was saying "Cole's dead, get him next", Cole wanted to get up and tell him he was full of crud and needed to shut his blasted mouth. Then Gabe decieded to check both Cole and Jim for a pulse. He found one on both of them, but Jim's was very weak. They were able to awake Jim who now remembered something that he needed to set straight before it was too late.

20 minutes later, Seth came into Jadyn's cabin and said "There's something you need to know. Jim just remembered that you were once his girlfriend and he knows that you think he broke up with you by choice. Well he didn't. He went into hiding to avoid being put to death so quickly that he never got a chance to say goodbye. He just realized this and he wanted me to tell you he's sorry for everything." As he left the cabin he added "I know he is telling the truth, because a dying man doesn't lie. We've got him hooked up to the 'DNA reset-inator' and it's keeping him alive for now, but he's not going to make it for much longer. If there's anything you want to say to him before it's too late, it's now or never."

Jim looked at her and tried to smile, but the pain prevented him from doing much. He finaly got enough strength to speak. "Jadyn...I didn't stop loving you; I was forced to...abandon my past life to continue living. Now it seems that nothing can stop that, so I just want to know...one thing; I know I don't deserve to ask it, and that there isn't really a good reason for you to do this, but will you...forgive me?"

"I...I don't know what to say... Thank you Jadyn... Thank... you..." The monitors showed his vitals dropping...then his pulse stopped altogether. Seth took off his helmet as did the rest of the boys. Connie gave him one small kiss on the cheek as Seth put his arm on Jadyn's shoulder and said "I'm really sorry."

(dang-it! now that Jadyn is so sad about Jimmy, Seth might never have a chance of being more than just a friend to her

I should have thought this thing through farther)

there's still a chance! note to self: don't screw this up.)

Seth had Frank perform a warrior's funeral for Jim; placing his body in a small boat, setting it adrift with the current, then setting it ablaze with a flaming arrow. As Jim's herse-boat sank out of sight, Seth felt like a piece of his heart was ripped out of his chest. Jim had been more than just a friend; he and Gabe had been with Seth through the good times and bad since they were little kids. Gabe was the only boy who wasn't surprised when Seth changed into a 9ft-tall Red-tailed hawk right in front of them and took off towards where Jadyn had gone; this is because Gabe had known about Seth's powers while the others hadn't. The other 8 boys were talking about what had just happened almost franticaly while Gabe just leaned up against a tree and watched them.
