Shipment is late! Now what?

Good luck. You might check with the post office first thing in the A.M. I know it is colder than most night in L.A.

We just got our small first batch, but I was afraid of picking them up at the Post Office. I did find a feed store in El Monte that has a great selection. I figured to let him get the orders and not have to worry about how many survived. He was able to get all four of our picks, plus a bonus one.

How about the others folks taking the chicks home, if they are not DOA? Should I make them wait so the chicks aren't as stressed? a couple of them have an hour drive.

I left a message this afternoon at the main USPS shipping office in L.B. where they send out the mail to all the smaller post offices and carrier annexes. I wasn't expecting any result to come of it, but I felt like I did everything I could.

Thank you for all the advice. I was figuring trying the sugar. I will try the electralytes in the water if the chicks come tomorrow. I haven't turned the extra brooder lamp off in the extra brooder all day. I don't want to not be prepared, just in case.

The call came from the P.O. at 9am that the shipped chicks were here. They didn't open until 9:30, but I could pick them up in the back. 3 DOA. They only sent 3 extra. Another 5 died shortly there after. They are doing okay now after the tiny bit of sugar in the water, mash, and giving some of the marginal ones plain yogurt. Hopefully everyone makes it through the night. They are so cute and wonderful, but I'm glad that folks came took theirs home this afternoon once all the chicks had a chance to recuperate. Some people got one less than they ordered, but I spread out the causalties so no one was without most of their order. I didn't get the 2 red sex-link chicks I ordered. They were the hardest hit, I think because of the paint markings they got picked on during shipping. Out of the 7 shipped only 3 made it. I shared in the losses rather than just passing all the tragedy off on to others.

The chicks were shipped out of NM. I blame the P.O. for the delay, however. The marks show the box was at LAX by Thursday at 7AM. They screwed up on the Southern California USPS side of things.

I am so sorry for your losses.

It is hard to understand how the PO workers can excuse being careless with a box containing living creatures.

I hope all the remaining chickies make it alright for you.

It never fails, when you need something the USPS fails. Sorry to any postal workers but everytime I need time sensitive mail its almost always late. Two days are done in four.

I hope you can get something in return from Welp.

Our post man just happens to be a friend of my husband. He did everything he could Thursday and Friday. I'm not mad at anyone. It happens. I have LIVE babies chicks, so I am actually pretty happy about it all. I only am missing one chick out of my part of the order. That is not too bad.

I spoke with Welp customer service this morning. They were really nice and understanding. No problem, they are shipping the chicks we ended up being short from our order out to us next week. They couldn't tell me if we will end up with any little roo packing peanut chicks or not. They said they would make a note on the order that if they did put roos in for warmth, to mark them. I kind of hope I don't get any, since I don't think it would be easy to find someone in the city willing to take cockerel chicks. I do understand about the warmth thing.
