Shipped eggs broken...

Ok, so I don't ship eggs yet, but if it were me, I would offer replacement eggs for the cost of shipping, after all, the hens will make more every day, and it's not that hard to pop them in the mail. But if it was a bad packing job I would just want a partial refund, no point in having him ship out more eggs if he's gonna pack them the same way. But really, Hens lay eggs every day for the most part, and it's not a huge loss to reship a few. IMO. But I would want pictures of the damage.

In my opinion he should send you another set of eggs free of charge, I personally sell eggs and I always make sure there packaged at its best, making a good name for your self its more valuable that making a few extra bucks, just this past week I shipped a lady some eggs on the 15th through priority mail, the package got somehow lost, I offer her to sent her another set of eggs free of charge even tho it wasnt my fault at all, and I did, shipped them today and just today she got the other eggs the ones I shipped to her on the 15. I ended up putting out of my pocket but at least I'm not building a bad reputation for my self.

that is horrible I would never pack that way and would never respond with have a good hatch. looks like Marans eggs if you would like ones that are not scrambled I will be happy to help out. I have been setting mine lately but can put a clutch aside for you.

Please make sure to leave feedback, people so rarely want to rock the boat and dont and then more people keep buying from the bad sellers and the cycle continues.

so sorry I would be so disapointed if that was my very first box of eggs.

You could have filed a ebay/paypal claim "item not as described" I know you didn't buy broken eggs. I've learned sometimes they are broken from handling but ebay offers buyer protection use it. I'm waiting on another set of eggs myself I would bet the shipping I paid that none of my unbroken ones are good....out of 20 that they shipped I set 12 by the time I get the new ones I'll know if any of these were good.

I would go a step further than this: ask the seller how they pack their eggs! I recently got some pheasant eggs from an ebay seller that had good remarks in her (?) feedback. Upon arrival, 1 egg was cracked, another was upside-down in the carton (probably how the other got cracked), there was too much empty space inside the egg carton, allowing the eggs to move around a lot. At day 10, only 3 of the surviving 11 eggs are developing. Another set of 8 eggs I received at the same time from a different seller was packed similarly, though the egg carton was packed full of quilt batting to make sure the eggs did not move...6 of 8 of those are developing. Always ask the seller how they package their shipping eggs, or even tell them how you want them packed.

Just my 2 cents.

I didnt feel like my eggs were packed very well either. To much empty space inside. My seller was not on ebay. She was from Back Yard Chickens Auction Site. She did offer after a while to send me some more eggs. I told her what I had left and I guess she is sending what actually broke in shipping. Now I have to figure out how to do a hatch. I only have one incubator and I have the other eggs in there on day 5. If anybody has any ideas on how to handle this I would appreciate it.

Well, I've learned alot from this incident. I will ask more questions about packing. But I will not let it stop me from doing this again. I just hope I get some fuzzy butts from some of these eggs that I'm trying to hatch from their rough travel......

Ok
so here's the update on my situation with the awful packing job from ebay seller....I emailed him 1 more time trying to get him to send me more eggs at his expense and he said"sorry about that but you pay shipping" I am just not willing to invest $15.00 more into his poor packing/ shipping...so I filed a claim with ebay and they are investigating it...they contacted him and he said NO! NO refunds....NoMORE eggs unless she pays shipping....
So we will see how ebay handles this situation ...I have never had this problem before...I have received 50 eggs this past week 1/2 and only 1 was broken...and all of them were packed awesome...so I am out $29.99 and no eggs..the 4 that survived i could'nt use the were so contaminated...

SO.... I broke them open just to check for fertility..Guess what none of them were fertile...go figure. So now I want my money back period.
Took lots and lots of pics so I would have evidence.

I am fully aware of the risks when you buy shipped eggs but the least you would expect is the TRY to give them a chance..this just looks like he threw em in a carton and threw in some strips of fiberglass insulation and 1 strip of foam taped it up and sent it... Its just ridiculous..i dont think I am being unreasonable..I got nothing for my money but a hard time
thanks for letting me vent:barnie:thumbsup

If none were fertile, he probably packed them that way so he could blame the post office for their not hatching. Hope it all gets worked out for you.
