Shipped eggs!!! Incubation tips wanted and needed

One of the cheap Chinese knockoffs was my first incubator also. I actually had decent hatches with it until the heating element and/or thermostat went out (on day 18!!) it wouldn't hold temp without a heat lamp over it. I suffered thru 3 days that way and still got a few to hatch.
But, the point I was going to make is even if the thermometer is fluctuating, the eggs take much longer to actually change internal temp. So slight fluctuations don't really hurt much, unless you have an extended high.

I didn't have that much understanding at the time. My presumption was that hatching process is all over after the 21st day. I usually get rid of whatever eggs is left un-hatched. With my new incubator,I have hatched egg till the 24th day

Quick question to the pros out here about candling. Do I have to candle all the eggs and why? What i usually do is to randomly select a few eggs and count my blessing based on those selection Please enlighten me.

I'd candle them all before lockdown at least, just to weed out any that have died as bacteria will take over and that's when you can get an exploding egg. You don't want that!

What I'm learning is "shipped" eggs has a chance depending on how it's been packed ...
Reading that eggs individually wrapped in bubble wrap, packed in a box well cushioned, in another box again cushioned ... Some say mark the box, others say not to ... Following this to learn as much as I can, the biggest obstacle we have is our Dept of Ag

Nice responses. Thanks folks.
Another though that worries me is the time it will take to candle all the eggs will amount to time they will be out in the ambient temperature. Does it matter?

As long as you don't take all day it will be fine. Do it as quickly as you can but don't rush, accidents happen when you rush. :)

Oh yes and very yes. Packing plays a great role on how shipped eggs turn out at the other end. One of my last egg purchases came from Dunlap Hatchery. They shipped the best, well packed eggs I have bought so far. They shipped their eggs in styrofoam casing filled with wood shavings around each eggs, encapsulating individual eggs in their spaces, and then each box of 12 eggs luxuriously sits in abundant wood shavings, in a bigger box, to absorb shocks.

Also, I think the bigger the shipped eggs, the lesser your degree of success.I have tried buying geese eggs three time with zero success.

A hen gets off the eggs for around half an hour to eat, make a toilet stop, maybe take a dust bath, so it's natural for the eggs to have a cooling off period each day.

Sounds great, then I candle one or two of the five trays that I have in the incubator within two to three days without any harm done t the eggs.
