I got a batch of eggs from someone in California. I was so happy when 8 out of 10 began to develop, especially since a lot of them had detached air cells after the long trip here. Well, when I put them in lockdown, only 1 was still alive! Even this one has a huge air cell. Other eggs from my own chickens that I set at the same time look normal (air cell is not huge and chicks are moving around). So, my question is, do you guys think it was because of the detached air cells or was there a problem with the chicks genetics in the ones that died. I'm not very optimistic that the last one will hatch, either. So bummed! I really wanted some of these chicks.

With shipped eggs it could be anything. The vibrations of being moved from across the country or even across the street can cause disruption in the development process.
