Shipped eggs?

This hatch so far, out of the chicken eggs, 7 have hatched, 3 more pips, and the rest have not pipped yet. 2 of the 21 didn't make it into lockdown, so I had 19 in lockdown. 1 muscovy egg didnt make it and so I have 6 left incubating, and will lock down in a few days.
So far:
19/21 chickens made it to lockdown
6/7 muscovy made it to lockdown
7/19 chickens hatched, and 3 more pips
So far, at least 10% hatch rate on the shipped eggs.

You said these came from different ebay sellers, and I'm curious, of the 7 that have hatched so far, are they from the same seller, or from sellers in the same part of the country?

Yes, please keep us posted. I ship eggs as well as have them shipped to me, not on a large scale or anything, but I am curious how much difference distance may play in hatchability.

Of the sellers:
one sent me Buff laced brahma (12), and BLRW (12) -> About 4 BLB hatched, more pips, and 4 BLRW hatched and more pip
one sent me light brahma (12) -> I think 2 hatched, I could be wrong, still in the incubator locked down
one sent me light sussex(12) -> several developed but none made it to lockdown
one sent me mixes of cochins and light brahma (13)-> 2 are in lockdown
one sent me muscovy (12) -> 6 still incubating

I have heard that duck eggs are better for shipping then the chicken eggs. I have to wonder if they are thicker shelled or what???

I'm no expert, but I would think shell thickness wouldn't be a factor unless we are just talking about surviving the actual journey. So many arrive unbroken, but still do not develop or make it to hatch. None of my chicken or peacock eggs arrived broken, but many still did not develop or quit before lockdown, whereas my own eggs hatch at a rate of 90-95%, depending whether they are early season or late season eggs.

of all of the chicken eggs, 15 hatched out of 19 lockdown. the two late Cochin's hatched this morning. gray fuzz ball with feather legs. the muscovies went into lockdown just now.

Personally i feel packaging plays a huge role in hatch ability. I bought over 60 polish eggs from different breeders and ended up with 6 chicks. I did have one set make it all the way to lockdown then died due to my humidity levels. Once that was fixed the eggs that did hatch came from seller who packed well. I won't buy from anyone any more unless they package them the way I request.
