My logic (open to correction) is as follows:
You have contact info for seller.
Hatching is fewer than 30 days.
If all eggs fail, it is still within 30 days and you can better address regarding refunds, BBB complaints, or however you choose to address a batch of failing eggs.
I know its nerve wracking right now. Patience will pay off. Does she have reviews or at least past customers you can ask regarding success rates?

We put eggs in a towel in a bowl on our fridge for a week or two and turn them. When we put them in the incubator, we candled them first and we could see veins. Maybe try that first if you can wait that long to incubate.

That just means they started incubating. You could get the same result by throwing them in the incubator for 2 days then candling.

Also after day 7 the viability of the eggs starts to drop rapidly.

I FEEL LIKE I GOT SCAMMED, DID I GET SCAMMED?
Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Was your seller NPIP certified... or shipping below the radar? USPS does not care to enforce the law it isn't their job. They just handle the mail. And sometime they screw up... one marked box of LIVE chicks, insured, tracked, guaranteed and all that arrived with mostly dead chicks and lots of poo on the inside top of the box... proof the chicks were upside down for a period of time during transport. :barnie

I did consider having hatching eggs shipped with NO markings even from an NPIP seller... as stated sometimes NOT drawing special attention to the package is in the packages best interest. However, we went the normal route, marked... I spent $150 from a KNOWN show person... and had only 3/36 eggs hatch. ALL were male! :he And to be honest I'm fairly certain many weren't actually fertile.

But I do believe that person tried and while I don't feel like it was money well spent, it was still an experience. Some eggs were packaged great. some were shipped on their side... which resulted in very detached saddle bag air cells. I learned so much from this experience, looking back... maybe it WAS $ well spent!

Including how she marked the box. Yes it said hatching eggs. But it also said PLEASE, don't shake, drop, etc.... THANK YOU. I believe some people DO respond to kindness. I did exactly the same thing when I shipped hatching eggs within my own state (a LOT less far than across the country where I mine shipped from)... the receiver got 100% fertility AND 8/12 hatched in the classroom project, 1 was injured by an accidental drop from the kids still learning how to handle and didn't make it. 6 out the remaining 7 were female Silkies!

Bok Bok... I understand your frustration. It would have been nice if you had been able to discuss their shipping routine and previous results including how they check their fertility before deciding to go with them. While it may not be ideal.. I too would set these eggs and move on... chalking this up to a valuable lesson learned instead of being scammed... It doesn't seem as though scamming was the true intention. Now if fertility is low to none (maybe replacement is expected at a certain point and you can request how YOU want them shipped) or the breeds that hatch aren't pure Silkie and that's what you agreed to... then THAT would be scamming. This just sounds like miscommunication to me.

I personally DON'T miss the excessive broodiness of my Silkies! :tongue

But they are cute and funny. I do miss having chicks or birds that sell like hotcakes all day long every day! :love

Anyways, I hope you can get past this and start seeing life develop in your bator... that makes you forget the troubles of the world! :wee

Hopeful for happy hatching! :fl:jumpy:jumpy

Eggs will NOT develop in the fridge... maybe you had a hen sitting on them previously, stored at a high temperature, or something that caused the development.

I would NOT recommend this technique to anyone who really want's their eggs to hatch, especially if they spent money on them.

Here is a fantastic hatching resource... which includes storage, fertility, and many other things...

Psst, I agree with you. But they said ON the fridge not IN. The top of a fridge could get warm enough to start incubation. ;)
