SHIPPED Hatching Eggs- Do you think I got scammed?

I know a few APA master breeders of silkies that do not label the shipping package as they noticed packages arrived in better condition if they didn't so they just stopped wasting time and money writing or printing labels to put on packages. Like others of said labeling means nothing because most of the package are handled by machines that do not read anything except bar codes, so it is going to get handled and x-rayed just like any other package and I have been told by my postal master at my post office rarely does anybody pays attention to anything written or stuck on packages only if the directions are part of the scanned shipping label does it even get attention.
The reality is there is no way to determine if you got scammed on shipped eggs because even if they do not develop it can still be because of the handling during shipping and no fault of the seller's. That is why it is so important to only order from someone that has a good reputation or ask around for recommendations. All you really can do at this point is put the eggs in the incubator, hope for the best but remember shipped eggs are always going to be a gamble and you can have great hatches or no hatches but if you buy eggs be prepared for nothing and if you want a guarantee of something for your money find a local breeder and buy chicks.

Psst, I agree with you. But they said ON the fridge not IN. The top of a fridge could get warm enough to start incubation. ;)
Ah, thanks! :highfive:

Let me go the other way then...

I suggest don't store eggs ON top of the fridge. ;)

That's a really warm place in our house... that makes bananas ripen faster, bread mold faster, and such... I can see the difference and how veining could be seen in that situation now! It's great information! :thumbsup Also cool that you tried something. Life does seem to find a way!

I will recommend against it to get your BEST hatch rate possible, proper storage... pointy end down and such.

At my post office it cost ten dollars extra to have them label the package fragile with their supplies/tape.

I was going to order a slew of Le Fleche this week (I think I'm in love guys. It's getting serious.) But... this thread with the hot mess otherwise known as USPS is making me hesitate with the fear.

OP is just having some high/misleading expectations I think. It's not that big of a deal. MOST shipped eggs hatch 50%. Not all, but most, and most people ship in insured boxes. I've shipped a lot of eggs before and they all arrived pretty in tact (Someone I shipped 14 to had 2 extras crack but no others have ever cracked). I've hatched shipped eggs and usually get about 40% hatch rate. You just have to recognize that 50% is a good estimate for how many you will hatch under good incubation and plan accordingly.

x2.
I hatched only shipped eggs for a few years. I think I got at least a few babies every time except once, when I tried to get eggs in winter. Bad idea on my part.

Are you ok BokBok? You got a lot of info here. Folks aren't being rude, just letting you know how it is! Are you new to buying shipped eggs? I remember when I started hatching from shipped eggs years ago. I learned fast, where the best area was to buy from .. yep, I hatched a lot, learned that there are certain states that came to my state in not only a timely manner, but in good shape.
