Shipped VS homegrown incubation humidity.

IMG_20200618_214224.jpg

The remaining eggs candled as late losses (one I have a video of it moving at lockdown.

New eggs were resting in Brinsea carriers so I just placed the whole things in DIYbator and started cooking. And I unplugged the humidifier cause I maintain ~30% without it.

Tomorrow night when Brinsea Bator gets here, I'll move the carriers after it heats up.

I also placed a single home grown egg laid today in just for fun. Labelled it "HG" so I could tell it apart. Then realized it probably won't be hard to find a lone jumbo brown among the A&M's

Nice ... you also bought an Ovation model (I see the extention turners).
Which exactly did you purchase, if I may ask?

It's a 56 EX. A hatchery near my brother in law used it 3 times then upgraded theirs. I bought it for a bargain and then ordered the larger carriers so I could set quail eggs.

I pick up the main incubator from my bro in law tomorrow.

Very nice ... I got the same. I am very satisfied with it. It's just fire and forget till lockdown 👌
I suggest to use destilated water for humidity.

Does your bro in law have spare evaporation pads?

He's just handling bringing it from the hatchery (that is near him) and bringing it to me when we have family dinner at my parents home. I don't know what all it comes with other than manuals and standard carriers. I imagine I ought to stock up on the pads though.

Although, I live really close to a salt water bay so I'm always in a fairly humid and may not need it?

In case you cannot get some, I suggest to diy one with kitchenpaper, just folding it to the right size like a accordion.

The automatic humidity control may not work propper without a medium to take and evaporize the water.

Here the manual for safety (free download at the brinsea page)

The nice thing with the EX model is, it does all for you.

I would not rely on your natural humidity, as it is not constant.
Let the EX do it. As I said, if you cannot get a pad, do it yourself with folded kitchenpaper.
