Shipping and Receiving Pea eggs contest!

I set the 20 eggs at 9:24pm. I was able to fit 12 into the new Octagon 20 Eco comfortably, and put the remaining 8 into the older Octagon 20 Advance EX (minus the humidity pump).
Here they are. Getting all nice and toasty. Time to start growing! :)

I only have one with the autoturner so I'll have to turn the whole other 'bator manually (or should I go in and turn each one by hand?) 3-5x a day.

Hatch date should be Friday, July 13. :)
I have learned threw the years the less you have to open that bator the better your hatch rate will be, good luck can't wait to see the babies.

I e-mailed Georgialee today on her shipment of 19 eggs,,she said 13 still looked very good and Monday is pip and pop day for her,,I think we need to go back thru this thread and compile one list with everyones shipped eggs and update as hatch day occurs, and keep it going-adding as more ship and hatch???? I'm still looking for 1-2 more colors of eggs to buy and would gladly enter them for statistical purposes,,but I'm having a very hard time locating what I want,,Mmmaddie13,,may be the merlot, but you sure your hatch date isn't July 11th??
Excuse me. Does this mean that you do not want updates about the eggs, and methods from a few of us, you just want the shipping and hatching details?

Lil Zoo you will have to let me know how it goes with the shipped eggs... I live in ainsworth and have family over by west chester... I have had eggs shipped to me 4 times and out of all 4 with over 60 eggs i've hatched 2.... But with my own eggs i have a 80 to 90% hatch rate... Be interesting keeping in touch with you since we are so close =)

Rules are simple here, this thread is started because so many people cannot afford live adult birds and the only logical way is to buy fertile eggs and have them shipped. This will be a "before and after" thread, meaning you will need to ask the person on the receiving end of the shipped eggs if they are willing to participate. To make this contest fair to everyone, the shipper must provide pics and a description of what methods they use to pack eggs.Any shipper can be used,United Parcel,Fed-Ex,United States Postal Service,,and any method can be chosen,,such as Priority shipping, 2 Day Express mail, ect,,but you must tell us the method and guaranteed delivery date.
I'm hoping we can arrive at the best carrier, best way to pack eggs, what some shipping boxes actually looks like upon arrival, and also what happens to the eggs packed inside.
I have had eggs shipped to me in styrafoam cups, nothing but packing peanuts in the entire box with the eggs loose inside that box.I had one shipment put inside of 2 boxes, each one being larger than the next. One shipment came to me that had to take 3 rolls of toilet paper to wrap 12 eggs.
Since much of the success of hatching peafowl eggs depends on both the shipping and the proper incubation of the eggs,it's only fair the pair of participants who experiences the highest hatchrate wins the contest. If you ship several shipments of eggs this season, each shipment can be entered as long as the buyers willing to accurately submit pics and then how many actually hatched out and lived.
I'm sure some unforseen questions will come up,but we can work thru those when they arrive. So here are the rules

SHIPPER-1) Post a pic or more of your technique for packing eggs to be shipped
2) Tell how many eggs and what varieties are in the shipment
3) Tell what carrier is used and the delivery time in days
4) Tell us the final destination of the shipped eggs( No it cannot be next door or to yourself),,no less than 150 miles or entry does not count.Post the miles to the buyers zip code
5) Cost to ship and weight of shipped package if possible

BUYER 1) Take a picture of the outside of your package once it is delivered and look for damage to the box.If there is damage this is where this thread will help everyone by then getting pictures of the contents. Was any eggs broken? If so where were they located in the box? The outside edge?Did the shipper try and put all eggs in the middle area of the box to avoid slight exterior damage by shipping? Was your package double boxed? If so and the outside box is damaged it will be interesting to see what the interior box looked like in relation to it's placement inside the larger box.Did this interior box also get damaged,or was it spared?
2) Give us the delivery date. Was it on time or a day late?
3)Examine for air sack displacement before they go into the incubator and tell how many air sacks are loose if any
4) 30 Days after incubation began you must then accurately report how many hatched.

We will then look at the highest hatch rate relative to distances-days until delivery the eggs travelled.Perhaps everyone that decides to try this could contribute some hatched peas to the winners? If we wait for the possible last entrants to hatch their eggs many entrants flocks may have stopped laying by that time,if we were to all contribute a few eggs to the winners..And most of the time the buyer may not have peachicks to give away to the winner, thats why their buying eggs to start with
Ideas for contest winners? We missing anything? Is there enough interest?

I am new to these forums. How can I give you my contact phone number, e-mail address or what ever. I would love to meet you. My first interest is just having three peacocks to watch their beauty. I have had to retire early because of problems with my eyes. So far on good days I can read computor for a while and still drive a car, would be glad to come see you. Later I maynot be able to do this, fact is I may not get worse or I may go blind only God knows what is in store. I live between Wellman and Washington so I would say we are within 20 miles of each other. I had my pity party this winter. I am ready to move on and find new interest to keep me busy. I have two incubators and would gladly help you incubate your eggs, with your instruction for something to do. That is if you ever need some extra help. The Institute of the Blind has been helping me. It is remarkable what the seeing impaired can do. They have a master gardener that is totally blind. My shipped eggs aren't looking promising, I know. This is totally awesome to have someone so close with experience.

Lil Zoo,put your cursor over lionkitty71 's name in her post #83 above,,on the far lefthand side,,a drop down box will appear,,the third option on that list is Send PN,,click on it and it's a provate way to send e-mail between members

Zazouse,

They are killing ME, too! I cleaned up and put away all 3 incubators, but those Midnights have me thinking about firing one up again.

I've got to go to Kankakee again on the 19. *Must stay strong!*

Yea my DH has to have a major surgery again and it is out of town again so i have to be away for 2 weeks comming home every 3rd day to check on things and drop more feed for my animals so i really need to stop all extra things(babies) till we are threw this surgery stuff.

Judyc,,,I can send you a file of pictures from Majik,,the Midnight B/S male,if it will help you thru these tough times?? BTW,he enjoyed some popcorn last eve and thanks you greatly!! I could hatch some midnights out for you,,I think I have 2-3 chicks in the brooder now from him,but those hens are on strike and I think I only have 1 egg from that pen in the past 4 nights,,maybe they want better wages or treats??

I participated in this contest, not to win, or care about winning. I found interest in this because of the fact being new to peafowl and wanting a certain color I am also interested in the outcome of eggs being shipped and the hatch rate. I thought this thread was for this purpose. My understanding you wanted to know about the details of the shipping and the hatching. There are many posts that pretain little to this on this thread. I updated as I thought was the purpose. No I won't have eggs to contribute to the winner, as I am only a buyer, who wanted a few peafowl. I am enjoying the beauty and may become more involved. The e-mail that tells me you aren't interested in updates on the eggs shipped makes me question if this is the intention of this thread. I would think that the overall process shipping, of the hatch and honesty is the only true method of determining this experiment/contest.
