1. do you need a permit or license to ship birds inside the us?
2. if they say their state doesnt have ship restrictions what does that mean?
3. how can i calculate how much shipping it will be before i head to a post office?
4. if my post office has delivered me baby chicks does it mean it will take my shipping of a large bird?
5. what do you those who have shipped recommend is the best way to do this?

1) Some states require NPIP certification before shipping in or out of that state.
2) If it says no restrictions, then NPIP is not required.
3) I have never calculated price, I just take mine directly to the PO, but you could probably use the USPS calculator for Express Shipping based on the poundage to get you an idea of how much the shipping will be.
4) I have to call my PO 24 hours prior to shipping live birds.
5) You must use a USPS approved shipping box. For 9 month old birds, I put a lot of fruit in the box to help with hydration - grapes, oranges, apples, etc. I've heard some people use sweet potatoes. Also, make sure to use shavings so the birds have a better footing.

I also only ship lives on a Monday or Tuesday. I would call your PO and make sure what their requirements are in advance.

Hope this helps.
