Shipping Eggs Out Of The US

All you can do is try. If they are good about it, then I would not worry about it. Each country is different and they would know what to do with it if they come across eggs. If it was live birds, then that is a different matter LOL!

We certainly need some Spitzhauben eggs from over there......

That is what I was thinking... just try. As long as you act innocent about it... they just take it away. You don't get arrested for trying unless you are hiding it under your shirt or something like that. Something that shows them you KNEW it was wrong.

I am supposed to go to Germany in July if everything goes as planned. I should make a list! lol.

I think if you are straightforward and declare what you have, then they will either let you bring the eggs or not. When you brought the eggs, the officials allowed it, so I don't think you did anything wrong.

Agreed.

HOWEVER (LOL) In all fairness... we stole his thread. He was asking about exporting. lol (Sorry!)

I'm fairly certain you cannot export eggs. I asked once at the post office. They said no. But it is a country post office and they don't know everything.

Thanks for all the input. I'll give it a shot and see what they say.

I'm heading over next Friday. No one raises chickens anymore, otherwise I'd take eggs over. I don't believe it's allowed, but the "security screeners" aren't very bright and told to look for certain items. They are NOT customs agents. Anything else they don't know or care about. Put them in bubble wrap and place in a sweater inside your carry on bag.

Upon landing in Germany, I've NEVER been checked or stopped or asked anything.

I always have a problem returning to the US at the baggage claim lately (NYC airports). They are patrolling with dogs looking for produce, meat, etc. I'm pretty sure eggs aren't allowed into the US, but whatever.

A few years ago one of the customs officials at Newark airport made a comment "Those Germans are always trying to bring MEAT into the country!" Luckily he didn't check us!

I do not see a problem bringing in meat as long it was packaged. Like other products that we import sausages, beer and what have you-s, why should it be any different? After all you bought it and got the receipt, I just dont know why they are taking away food. Nothing like a good ol German imported Bratwurst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said it before and I will say it again, It isnt the exporting out of America you will have to worry about.... it's leaving the country they wont mind!! Its getting it into Germany! From the sounds of what you guys said America is just as worried about importing foodstuff as Europe. If you get caught bringing eggs into Europe I'm 90% sure they will make you hand them over, and there is alot of paperwork usually involved in that!!
There are reasons why import laws are in place for food and animals.... one of the is to stop the spread of disease!
Your birds might not be sick from the bacteria and virus' they carry in the USA but over here it might be new and with no immunity it would spread to other flocks possibly making them sick, and visa versa... bacteria and virus' over here might not be a problem for our birds but they may be for yours!!

If your serious about it I suggest you contact a vet? As they will be able to tell you about importations and give your birds the all clear which might come in handy if you get stopped with eggs in your bag!!
