Anyone know how long it usually takes to ship eggs? I ordered some sizzle/silkie and faverolles from Jaynie and she mailed them Monday and put a note on the box for them not to deliver but to call me for pickup. No one called and I called the PO and they say that the carrier may have not seen the note. But she has delivered to my house and did not leave a note or anything. Just curious what your experiences have been.

I haven't shipped eggs myself, but just received eggs from three different states to here in N. Ga. Got them from W. Va, TN, and California and each one got here within two days, even the ones from California! Monday, the day they were to ship out, I went to my P.O. and put a hold on all packages that week, told them I was expecting hatching eggs from several states, and filled out a card that said "Call for pickup". In addition, at least one person wrote that on the package and highlighted it. My P.O. is in a very small town, but they did a fine job calling me immediately.

Most that ship eggs, including me, use Priority mail which typically should take 2-3 days. The majority of my packages arrive within 2 days, even on the other side of the country. However, I have had an experience of them taking 13 days. You just never know with the PO. Priority is not a guaranteed service...the times stated on the web site are only estimates.

I received my eggs (shipped to WV from TX) in two days, priority. However, we also have a very small post office: the town only has 300 people in it, and the post office is a beautiful, quaint little room with old-fashioned PO boxes. I think the small post offices are much less likely to make a mistake from being in a rush.

I don't know if you can still do this or not, but it used to be you could have people just address a package to you at your post office, care of "general delivery," and they'd automatically hold it for you. (After all, they didn't have the rest of your address... !)

Well, I sent DH up to the post office. They told him that if the box says "Call for Pickup" they will call me when it gets there. So I don't think it is on this end. I think the box just got sent to the wrong place or something. You know the postal service. I can receive junk mail in one day from china but something mailed from the next town over has to go to china and then back here for delivery, ha ha. I am sure they will be here today and if not Jayne has assured me she will have more eggs for me. I am just a little disappointed because it is my first time with hatching eggs and all and I was so excited. I just hope those eggs have not been jostled too much and will hatch for me. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I will let you know. I always thought packages sent priority took 2 days as well. All the ones I have ever sent or rec'd have taken 2 days. Today is day 4. Is there a way to tell if the eggs are harmed before incubating, besides the obvious cracks and so forth? Thanks.

Marie
