Shipping experiences this year? (2022)

I don't recall how I got the local post office number--googled it or something. It'll be a number with your local area code that rings directly at your post office. You can also try that. I suggest trying to find out what time of the morning the shipment/mail comes from your regional distribution center. For me, they happily told me that it comes from Phx at 6:30 every morning. So I knew to call or go down there at that time. There's usually a buzzer on the wall next to a halfdoor that you can ring that rings in the back so they know you're there. You can probably say "Hi Im Jane Smith here for my chicks from Hoovers".

It's a complete gamble. It doesn't take much for things to go wrong.
Last year my chicks arrived the following day after they hatched ( 5 of the chicks sent were the wrong breed & gender ) My only order this year is with Ideal and they're scheduled to arrive the 3rd week of May .I've decided to hatch my own chicks this year in case any of the hatchery chicks die enroute. I've been fortunate so far.

Whether or not your area DC is approved for consolidation. for example, Tucson is approved to be consolidated into Phx. So if you ordered from a hatchery in Tucson, there could be delays if the box was routed to Tucson then sat a while before going to Phx and on to your area.
So if Syracuse NY is my closest, and says others will be consolidated into Syracuse (not somewhere else), it should be fine? If I order chicks from say, Iowa, do I have to watch that state too?

My experience was, that the chicks took the extra day because the DCs near the origin were consolidated. Plus, since your DC is being consolidated into, I'd think you'd be good. No substitute for asking your local PO's experience with priority and with live chicks though.

Thanks!

I placed an order for Black Leghorns and Buff Leghorns with Sandhill in 2020, half of which was fulfilled this afternoon — the container shipped with 21 chicks.

There were 9 dead-on-arrival, 6 more that have expired since in the lamp-heated area I've raised all our chickens thus far in... 2 more are struggling, we'll see it they make if through the night. Seeing all the reviews of Sandhill on this website, it seems I've been had...

I am so sorry... They'll refund or at least replace the losses, right? I am completely unfamiliar with Sandhill.

I hope so, the bigger issue for me is just how long that might take...

I've searched fairly prolifically for alternatives, for Buff/Black Leghorns, and thus far I've yet to find anybody that can provide what I'm looking for. :(
I'd never heard of Sandhill either so looked them up. Wow what a list of birds they have! They had Scottish Dumpies ❤️....but I also noticed the lack of photos for breeds they said they've raised for years and the seriously poor quality of some of the few photos they do have...I don't know, just seemed weird.

Anyhow, glad you shared your experience with them. Their bird list makes them tempting.

Hope you get healthy birds or a refund.
