Shipping experiences this year? (2022)

I have ducklings coming from California and I live in Louisiana. I pray they don't die like some others have. That is so sad. I got my eggs from the same farm, and they came in 2 days. Another farm it took 5 and only 1 out of 12 made it to the incubator. Crazy!
The one egg is going to make it, I think. I am excited that at least it wasn't a total loss, and they did replace the eggs. Those are getting ready to hatch in a couple of weeks. No big deal.

I do prefer Metzer Farms though. They really have been amazing! I will let everyone know if my ducklings arrive alive in May from them. The eggs I purchased from them are very good. They even sent 4 extra just in case some weren't fertile or got damaged.

Ordered 11 chicks from McMurrays. I signed up for notification from hatchery and USPS tracking, text, the whole bit. Arrived in 48 hours. Packing—no heat source other than 11 bodies. Box holes were unperforated, all closed so no ventilation. I lost 4 birds so far.
This is my first time with chicks, ever. I went to TSC for supplies and ended up with 4 littles today...at least I could SEE them thriving and moving around before I chose them.
It killed me to put those dead chicks in the trash bin.

Thats awful! I am so sorry..

I hope you took pics of the unperforated holes and lack of heat source! That is downright criminal! Can't blame that on USPS.

I have had many orders from Meyers, Most have not been a problem, but they have taken care of me if I had any. These were not this year shipments.

-I had one batch in a very cold late Oct.
5 looked dead of the 17, I revived them but later one revived one did die. In the future I will ask for a heating pad during cold weather.

-I had one die that was crushed by the other chicks. It was smelly by the time it got to me so it must have happened early on. The sad part was it was a LO.

I have 2 orders from 2 hatcheries coming in May. I hope that is warm enough.

I did not. This being my first ever shipment it didn’t dawn on my about the holes not being open. Then another poster said their chicks/ducks had no heat and I thought, hey..I really did not see anything in the box other than straw and grow gel. No wonder they died!! It’s still cold
