Shipping hatching eggs

No that is not it. When they lay them, I pick them up and I only have one nest box (I only have 4 hens of this particular variety and unless they laid them in shavings, hid them and then picked them up and moved them back into the box themselves is the only way that would be possible with my set up and I doubt that happened) that I pick them up from and they certainly were not incubated. I candle them and many times you can see a "Web" in the egg. If I do not see it, that egg doesnt get shipped.

They were shipped ground on Thursday and didnt get to their location until the following Tuesday - so I am convicned these eggs were shook up and the temp changes from FL to MA were also a factor. I am going to resend eggs to this person because I have no idea what is wrong - but was hoping someone would have run into this before?

My best guess would be that the egg got a minute crack in it during shipping.

Now as far as how I like my eggs shipped. Egg cartons all the way! I could bake a dozen cakes with all the broken eggs I've recieved that were "individually bubble wrapped".

yep me too, they move around too much when done that way and ALWAYS end up with a lot of broken ones when done in the big pile thing in a box. actually I will no longer buy from people if they tell me they dont use cartons...no sence in it to me seeing how many I have received scrambled like that over the years

Hi! All eggs packed-in-cartons are not the same, just like all individually-bubble-wrapped eggs are not the same.
*"Individually bubble wrapped" and packed this way, they travel well: Wrapping/Packing eggs for Shipping. No breakage and happy air cells.

Lisa, that's the same way we package ours as well. I HATE to see them arrive in egg cartons. I have the most trouble with egg carton eggs. I guess people have their preferences, but I get so disappointed to see them arrive and they are in an egg carton.

That is pretty much how a I wrap mine too, except then I link 4 eggs together, make 2 rows and bubble wrap that pack and then make another one. Make sense? I think they have less room to move around.
Most eggs I have rcvd that have been broken or smashed on one end have been from cartons. But some in cartons are perect.

Im with you too. I don't like getting eggs in cartons either, or shavings.

all depends on the method, you will never get a broken one from m eunless the box it'self is smashed. You mave to wrap each one still and fill the carton with paper filer or some thing and tape it shut...yes if you dont do all that they will be broken.
Everyone have their own way I'm sure, I ship about 10,000 every spring though and never have any negative feedback on the packing or arrival condition. All depens on how much effort you put into it in either method.

That way sounds o kay to me.
It's the ones who just wrap them and pile them up in the box in a big egg mess I am talking about, never fails, ones I have received like that are ALWAYS broken or shook to a soup. If you can control the eggs, they have amuch better chance, also If you can set the eggs aircell up they survive much better, thus the cartons. Think about it this way. Take an egg in your hand and shake it side to side.....I'll wait...

Turned to soup in just a second didnt it.... now shake one side to side but with the aircell up, instead of big end to pointy end, side to side, you'll find it VERY tuff to rupture the cell that way...

They go threw the same directional shaking in transit, box will vibrate side to side way more than up and down, so if the eggs are stood up, they will be effected much less aircell speaking. What happens is the weight of the internal eggs starts moving like the ocean and slaming into the thin aircell membrane. They cant tolerate that.

but when the moch short direction of side to side is done, and the aircell is not the stopping point, shell is...well they just make it better...

Hope that made sence??
