Shipping Pigeon Eggs: Possible/Impossible?

What do you think? Is there any way such fragile eggs could make it through the postal service intact and hatchable?

Also, I am aware that (unlike chickens) pigeons need parental care once they hatch.

This post is about the eggs making it through the mail.

I am not sure about pigeons eggs but quail eggs seem to do fine shipped through the mail.

I shipped 100's of button quail eggs with very little damaged.I use the foam egg shippiers from www.redoakgamebirds.com.The foam shippers fit perfectly in the 12x12 priority shipping boxes from the post office,and best of all the boxes are free yes free from our government,go figure.Also if you do buy them,get the flat sheets to for the top and bottom.
I cut 2 pieces of cardboard,1 on the bottom,put 1 flatsheet,then the egg shipper another flatsheet and then the other cardboard,taped all together and made alittle handle out of tape to pull the entire piece out.Wished I took a pic of it.Costumers where very happy with the packaging and only one package had damage.That was thanks to the boot that someone dropped kicked the package,but even then there where only a few eggs damaged.

I wonder how pigeon and quail eggs compare, strength-wise.
Quail eggs get shipped all over the place, but not pigeon eggs.
Is it just because hatched pigeons are completely helpless, and quail can feed themselves?
So many questions, lol.

Pigeon eggs have been shipped before with no problems. Quail and pigeon eggs are pretty similar in egg strength.


Pigeon eggs are rarely shipped because they required handfeeding from hatching until they are weaned at about 25-30 days old. It starts out feeding every two hours, and then eventually gets less as weaning gets closer. It can be tricky to do properly, and of course formula can never match the benefits natural crop milk has for the babies. Most people who have eggs shipped, already have foster parents in mind for taking the eggs. I ran into an article about it today actually. Let me go find it.

i've had pigeon eggs shipped in from fl. all made it safe and all hatched but one that was clear. i wait till mine nest then have them shippped and switch the eggs out and let my frillbacks hatch em usually(i have a pair ended up 2 girls,lol). but i have also incubated them and hatched also then hand fed them.

my eggs were wrapped when they came with paper towel/ bubbles then put in like a salt shaker box or a very small box. then that was wrapped and padded inside a #4 priority box filled with paper/bubbles to keep the little box from moveing and for padding. they shipped wonderful and had beautiful babies hatch from them.

pigeon eggs have shells a touch thinner but they ship just the same a quail egg does. they r shipped less i think mainy because they r very touchy and a pain to handrear if no parents to care for them. i agree way better for them and so much easier if have foster parents to care for them. if my other pairs have them i let them raise them but i hold the squeakers everyday so they bond with me and r holdable when ready for new homes.
