Shooting predators

The price of a coon hide on 11-21-2010 was $8 to $10 for a large heavey pelt. Add that up with the price of $25 dollars for the meat, it since to me that going that way is better than burying them. Look at the feed you could but with that money. Myself, I would sell the pelt and eat the meat. Come to think of it, I can't remmenber going a winter without eating them.
Summer time is different, the meat has a different flavor to it. They eat more fish then, the winter is more grain. Never can tell what I might put on the table. When my DW has some kind of a pot luck at work, her co-workers always assks if I cooked it.

I love in country so I can shoot...and will! Personally, I use a 22 with scope so I can reach out and "touch" them. But I use the long rifle CB's....barely makes a pop. It may not kill instantly if the animal is of any size....but I'll bet they go off to die somewhere else. If it's big and I don't think the cb will get it, I also have a 22 mag rifle with a scope. That will get any size predator!

Thankfully, I haven't had any predators since I fixed up everything...electric fencing, trap, monofilament line for hawks and owls.

Probably not an issue of ethics unless its an issue for you and probably as many opinions as there are folks interested enough to even think about it vs do I want to lose my bird? Kinda a no brainer.

We still have a Coon Club. It's a little bar/ night club now, but it used to be were the coon hunters would meet before going out to hunt...probably came back for drinks later!
And sorry to whoever said it but I ain't eating Coon! There's so many rabid ones here in Northern Md. that I wouldn't even want to skin one anymore. I shoot and move to an open area for the buzzards to clean up! No mess, no fuss! Problem solved!

oops. sorry my typo. well i know i can't actually fire my ar-15 at the coons, i was thinking about using my bow and sticking one in them.

Yea, I think a .223 is a little overkill! I have shot many at night with my bow but it has been from my stand hog hunting.
