To the OP.
Be sure to check into zoning laws before putting your fence up.
In my county, we do not need a permit if ALL of the fence is under 6'. I suppose that means posts and all. Sounds like you might need your fence to be higher than 6'. If the neighbor is "on the fence" concerning the fence, you don't want him calling the zoning board on him.

Also, an inexpensive way to increase the height of a fence is to add 2"x4" wire to the inside of a fence above the top. I had to do that to our 4' picket fence to keep a dog from jumping out. It didn't distract from the looks of the wooden fence and did the job. From a distance all you see is the wood. It made the total height 6'. You could do the same with a 6' fence to make it taller. I would guess that an 8' fence would be expensive.

Thomas has some good points.

One more thought, OP. Check into laws about fences, while you are at it. Here, I believe they have to be 6" inside the property line to be considered yours; otherwise your neighbor legally owns half the fence. Don't even want to think what kind of nightmare that could lead to.

funny dawn that you say that, When we moved here i noticed one side had 2 fences. Say what??? Ours is chain link and his is old rotten wood, that is half down. So i though, why would someone do that??

Got my answer when he turned my dog mean by squirting him full force in the face on a daily basis. We dealt with him and his wife! I mean geesh im a irish girl from philly,,,TEMPER

Here the Previous owner had problems with him and said he rather loose 4 inches of yard yhen spend a life term in prison. He made sense! Some people you can not change

Moral of the story is you can't control your neighbor so controll your situation by putting up a fence

And maybe a sign that reads....though shall love thy neighbor like thy love themself....
