Hey everyone I am shopping for a four wheeler and came across one that is 475 cc. What does that mean? Does that determine how fast it goes? HOw fast would a 475 cc 4 wheeler go?

cc = cubic centimeters engine displacement.

ETA: silkiechicken beat me to it.

JMO, but the main issue should not be "how fast would a 475 cc 4 wheeler go?" Stability and safety come to mind here...

That depends entirely on why you're buying the atv. With the exception of the one quad used for farm chores "stability and safety" have never been at the top of my list when quad shopping. And even then it wasn't at the VERY top of the list.

I have a 400cc Suzuki and on flat ground (dirt roads) it will top 50mph with me on it (165lbs). We have them for hunting purposes and my 400 is TRULY too big. I have both of my sons in 250cc Artic Cats and they go PLENTY fast enough, are on a smaller footprint, much easier to manuever.

Best of luck....but do remember safety is critical. I have a previous customer who flipped his ATV and it pinned him under it. Caused him to have MASSIVE back surgery, extensive hospital stays and still has continuous back pain. They can be a deadly "toy"....I would encourage caution, especially if you are unfamiliar with riding them

There are a lot of determining factors other than the engine "size" when considering how fast it will go. What make and model are you looking at? Is it stock or have there been aftermarket adjustments made?

I know a guy that was inexperienced and went riding with an experienced guy that is a bit of an A*s. He was going around a curvy mountain road trying to keep up with the other guy. Long story short he went to fast for his experience and drove off the mountainside and rolled down about 30 feet. He was in the hospital for a while and still can't walk right. You here about kids getting killed or messed up quite often. They can be very dangerous if you aren't careful just like any other vehicle.

That said I would like to get one. Can't afford it.

We have a 250 cc and a 400 cc Suzuki. We find the 400 cc cumbersome on trails, but it's an excellent utility quad. I don't know how fast exactly it goes, but I can tell you, it's faster than I *need* to go.

The 250 cc is a freaking BLAST. It's nimble and easy on the trails, good for creek stomping, it goes well in the snow. I guess it goes about 35, tops, and I've had it there.

If you're looking for a good quad for trails, playing around, etc., I'd look for something a bit smaller. I can literally ride circles around our 400 in the woods.

Good luck-
Em
