Shopping for Marans eggs? Start here before you buy....

You can buy colored and numbered chicken leg bands at several places on the net. I'm gonna get some for next spring.

I have BC Marans. Ten that are 2 weeks old and 8 that are 1 week old. They are very active and growing fast. I am very excited about them growing up and having eggs! Willie

I'm in love with the Wheaten Marans--I understand that their egg color isn't quite as dark as the BC. Where would they come in on the egg color scale?

I'm hoping to find a source for the Wheaten this spring--I just love their color!

I've contacting several breeders but I'm way down on the list

I'm not involved with showing, but I would like to get some nice birds for me.

ETA: Two of the ladies started laying at 21 weeks. Woohoo! The eggs are very dark and have nearly black speckles. My BF commented, and now I can't stop seeing it, that the colour has an almost burgundy appearance. Being the unbridled egg eater I am, the first thing I did was crack one open and fry it up. They're also pretty on the inside, like the interior of a conch shell.

Wow! I wasn't expecting the wheaten to be quite that dark. Those are beauties--and they're huge!

Hey kinnip. Thanks for this. I wasn't freaking, but I was curious. Are your birds from Jesse then? or Bev?

They're from Jesse. He's less than 20 min. from me. I've also gotten guineas and EEs from him. He has more than a little going on out there, but he has a good handle on it. I actually want to get one or two of his sport Marans. I'd love to get some of Bev's birds too, but the waiting list is daunting. She's super sweet and really loves breeding Marans. I just contacted her through her website with questions about birds I already had, and she emailed me back that day with ample answers and an invite to the Marans group on Yahoo.
