This is my Little guy named "Shorty". He is exactly 12 weeks old today. As he is an "only" Serama and I never had others to compare him to.....I wondered how he was turning out for his type.
He began crowing about a week ago. It isn't loud at all thankfully.

I have to say he is a really personable guy who is a BIG bird in his own eyes.

His favorite girl is a Standard Creve who is only 9 weeks old and already 1/3 larger than he is. It is a comical team. He guards her and dances for her. Follows her all around the yard fighting off house sparrows and doves should they come too close.

Any thoughts appreciated on how you think he is turning out.

I only know seramas from pictures, but I think he's darling. He seems to have a nice short back, a good stance, and nicely-pointing-down wings. I bet his breast will get bigger as he grows up.

I'd take him to be my first serama... lucky you!

It's hard to judge a young Serama, but one thing I can tell is his tail set isn't very vertical. While some characteristics may change with maturity, that won't.

It actually does stand straighter up after watching him closly yesterday.....depending on how fast I can snap his picture before he goes to move I'll try to get a better one up..:<)

He is very vertical, but his wings are a bit too long--may be better if he was sticking his chest out. You want them to clear the ground and to show a little bit if the foot. His chest is OK, but slim. Waddles look good, but comb is irregular. Some don't hold the tail up if they have softer feathers, and some do. Im breeding for the harder feathers this year when I match up pairs. The biggest problem is that he is a little bit long in the back. You don't want a gap between the hackles and the tail feathers like he has. Let me give you some examples.
Sammy..has a teeny bit of back, but great vertical tail with hard feathers.

Mr. Wonderful has soft feathers but no back at all....

Napoleon has softer feathers, no back but a longer tail base.

He only holds his tail really straight when he is getting new hens or arguing with a roo, then he dragon poses lol...
This is where we showed him Sammy..

This is great, but he backed into Kelly's purse...
