Our new coop has been drying in the SC Sun for a few months now, and I am wanting to treat the wood. I have been reading about Shou Sugi Ban, I like this method as it tends to keep pests away and is an attractive way to extend the life of the wood. I was wondering if anyone else has used this method and what oil did you use after the burn. Would boiled linseed oil be ok for this purpose?

What type of wood did you use?
That technique is used on cedar, not sure it would work as well and any the type.

"hemlock, southern cypress, pine, and basswood. Though softwoods like cedar are ideal for shou sugi ban, you can use hardwoods like oak and maple, though they may not prove as durable." masterclass.com
