Should he go or not?

You see I got REALLY angry once and kicked him really hard. He runs from me but never tries to challenge me.

Hey, I said that, LOL! Seriously, it's really true. I've had too many awesome, sweet roosters in my time owning chickens that I know there is no reason to own an aggressive one.

I was going to say, I don't remember saying that.

Sure is a good saying though!

As for fighting the rooster back... I had a mean roo charge me once, I swung the metal treat bowel at him just before he hit me and knocked him right in the head. He ended up walking shaky for a good 15 min. An hour later... he charged at me like nothing happened earlier that day. He made a very good stew that weekend.

To me dinner is a last resort...BUT if Slifer had been my first rooster, I would've been scared SPITLESS of her...but I read up about nasty birds and she learned that I was top bird and not to make me mad...but Jerry was my first roo and he was spectacular...

To protect their flock is what a rooster is supposed to do...and you can't really fault him for that...

my white crested black polish rooster gets brave sometimes, my grandson used to run back and forth on the other side of the fence and he would laugh cause the rooster would run with him, then when they were face to face the rooster tried to flog him! everyonce and a while he gets brave with me, I just turn around and grab him and turn him on his back, and talk to him, then carry him around a while. It seems to be working, he goes longer periods now without trying to flog me, or when i am walking he would come at me when I turned my back.
He is pretty, so he is lucky or he would be dumplings too.

You have all made me feel so much better! My Rooster had starting getting agressive and flying at me with his claws so I carried a golf club, then he did it with hubby several times well last night he did it to my 3 year old and bit her as well hard enough it left a bruise. Scared her to death, which I do not want as she lives to hang out with her chickens!

So guess who's roo is stew tonight! (of course my little one thinks some man came and paid $5 for her roo). I was feeling really guilty about this until I read all your posts!

Well wacking him with a stick, club, pole, foot, fist, holding him upside down, and trying to sneak in just dosen't work! He will flog you every time! He will grab the egg basket out of you hand first to 'feed his hens' I guess! They love to eat shells and all!

These are actually my granddaughters chickens, but when I brought up this post last night and let her read it, she is already licking her lips tasting the dumplings! I think it is end of days for "Alvin". I know its harder when they have names but...

Seriously, kicking the mean rooster does work! My rooster Clucken never attacked me again! He's afraid of me, but it worked. No matter how many times he does it just keep on going! What I did was I started out easy and everytime he tried again I did it harder. It works!!!(Just don't do it as hard as you can)

None of the above worked for my JJ. He was a pet. The grandkids played with him since he was a chick. He was beautiful and took very good care of his ladies. BUT, he became a full fledged rooster and started taking his role very seriously. One day he challenged me and I knocked him on his a$$. The very next time I went out to the coop he came at me again. I kicked him as hard as I could and it didn't even faze him. This fight went on for about 5 mins. before he finally backed down. But every time I went to the coop he was waiting for me with even more determianation to KILL me. I am not in the best shape and I figured one day he would actually win. Not wanting my grandkids to get hurt and me ending up with a heartattack, JJ was invited to dinner, the dogs dinner! Oh I did try the kinder way of dominateing him and I swear he was laughing the whole time I carried him around.

I have two roo's who are being way too aggressive with my hens, so they are locked up and are gonna start getting grower. In a couple of weeeks they will be dinner! Protective is one thing, but beating the tar out of the hens is just not acceptable!
