Should I be concerned?

A few days ago my hen met up with one of our dogs and recieved a sizeable wound from the dog. So far it has been healing well. I've been putting antibiotic ointment on it daily and keeping her in the house until she is healed up. My concern is tonight I went to check on her and she was messing around with the wound. She was pecking at it or maybe itching it. She didn't get it bleeding or anything I'm just worried she will be pecking at it and prolong the healing process. Is this a normal thing for the hen to be doing?

try getting some blu-kote on it if you can, it stains the wound dark purple (since chickens are attracted to pecking at red things like wounds) and i think tastes bad. i've never had a blu-koted chicken peck at its own wounds more than once [IMG]

they're fantastic healers though, wishing her a speedy recovery!
