Hello,
I am new here. I do not have any ducks or chickens of my own. I live in an apartment and we have a big pond. Many geese and ducks are around, the geese not so much anymore. We had a small thunderstorm the other night. After it passed I looked out my window to find a man carrying a momma duck out of the water, she was injured. He sat her under a tree and I did go over and feed her some bread (which I now know is not nutritious). She would move her body and try to get up but just could not. The man also said he found a dead baby duck in the water. I was going to take her somewhere the next morning because it was late and no where near me seemed to be available to help. I go out the next morning hoping for the best, but she now had her head laying down on the grass, her eyes were shut and her head moved every couple minutes. When I came home on lunch she was now dead. I had contacted our leasing office to let them know so they could dispose of it. The man was not thrilled and acted like he was not going to do anything. I mean there are kids around here they don't need to be exposed to it. Finally after a threatening email at 5:30 pm the manager came and got it. So now I see two baby ducks bigger then the dead one wandering around with no mother. So I researched a little today and picked up cracked corn and oats for them. Of course all the ducks come around when I start feeding. I see another momma duck with a tiny duckling. It seems perfectly fine. Come home this evening and that baby is dead, the mom just sitting by it. So sad!! Walking around I noticed this almost black duck with a white chest that has been around here for 4 or 5 days now sitting up on the grass by the water, my boyfriend goes up to him and he also can't move. Just barely wiggles his body if you go near him then lays his head down. Keep walking along, see a dead duck in the water. Then noticed that one of the two ducklings I mentioned earlier seem to be slow going, not as fast as his or her sibling if you start to approach them by the water. I am just worried something is terribly wrong here. Maybe bird flu? Something in the water... not to mention how disgusting it is. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have cried numerous times over the duck I pretty much had to watch die. I just want to make sure they are safe, and the residents and their pets are safe.

Call animal control or SPCA or google wild animal rescue in your town. If all fails try the fire department. Don't give up.
