I have 7, 8 month old chickens, 4 of which are laying. My barred rock, jersey giant, buff orpington and silkie (silkie is 2 years old) are laying, the easter egger, brahma and cochin I am still waiting for. Ive been getting between 1 - 3 eggs a day, normally two. Is this a little low for 4 producing hens? They started to lay around 5 - 6 months old and were laying almost an egg a day each but now its gone done.
Also should my other hens have started laying by now (8 months old)? I am almost sure they do not have nest in the yard because everything is covered with snow.
I was expecting my easter egger to lay first because her comb got bright red early on but still no eggs from her. A few months ago she had a problem with her toe nails falling out, which is fine now but Im wondering if it could have delayed her laying?

mine slowed down this fall around october and are just starting to pick back up in the last week. i have 20 layers ranging from 6 months to 21 months old i was getting 5-6 eggs a day until today when i got 10. i dont use artifical light just natural. i have barred rocks , white leghorns rhode island reds, cinnamon queens, deleware, and black sex links,

It could be the weather, or a health problem. Or...who knows? I've got 20-ish 11 month old pullets and only one of them is laying, and she's only laying about three eggs a week. She just started two weeks ago. No one else has started. Lots of people are having trouble this year with birds not starting to lay at the proper age...
