Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Scrambles, the chick is too cute and very lucky that Rumples was happy to take her! I've been able to give Peach pretty much any chick, but I know lindz's broody resisted foster chicks, it's always a gamble. glad it worked out!.

lindz, I love that video... she's so poofy...

I was going to put a box back there but she refuses to use the boxes. so I don't see the point. she'll do everything to avoid it which may lead to her peeing on the wall. the plastic and newspaper is keeping the carpet dry, but the carpet stinks again. I can't take chances. the carpet's gotta go, and probably pretty soon... so does Min. She's gotten so pathetic and decrepit - winter really kicked her butt. I hate having to make this decision. blowing boogers all over the place is bad enough, but a little elbow grease and it cleans up just fine. in her case, the volume of snot... it's a lot of elbow grease, but I love her.

Remember that Clarabelle took the first chicks but when I tried to introduce new ones a couple of weeks later it didn't work. I think if you introduce within the first 3-4 days you are probably going to be successful. Any longer than that, I probably wouldn't try it. This little girl, is one of Clarabelle's but she isn't as sweet as her momma was! She doubles in size when she poofs up! And that growl and chatter is VERY intimidating!

Cheeka, good luck on making that decision.... I dread the possibility of having to do that with any of mine.

and it does get stuck in your nose. cats are worse. I am so fed up with the cats... I am at a loss. I can't get the smell out of the living room after all, so I have to pull the carpet.

it has it's own soupcon of aromas... So poetic... until you realize you are describing litter boxes and not gourmet cooking!

today I had to take my elderly friend to the lawyer to do her will, a power of attorney and a health care proxy. it took quite a while as she kept bursting into tears. it's gotta be rough... she's 86 next week, going blind and wanting to stay in her home, independently, but it's getting to be very difficult. by the time I got home, I found 3 broken eggs - yolk covered eggs from the Fosters, and 2 nests in the dome. the other 3 nests that contained eggs were fine. so I should have had 21 altogether, and am left with 18 for the day.

You use straw in your coop, yes? I use it in the outside run and have sand in the hen house. In the bantam hen house, I've been using rice hulls. They keep things really dry, and I clean it out like a cat box every day or so. Going to pull out the sand and switch to rice hulls for the big girls too.

Poor Min Min. She must not be feeling well or something. That's pretty extreme behavior. Does she recognize you or is she completely senile? Could you kennel her?

Your friend is really going to miss you when you move. It's so wonderful that you help her out like that. Does she have any family nearby?

right after I clicked submit for my last post. Min darted behind the TV. I grabbed her and put her in a litter box. she jumped out and darted into the bathroom. she peed on the clothes I left on the floor this morning. just a little, but they are now soaking. so I grabbed her up again and put her outside. I got food and water, put it in the litter room and took 1 litter box out. she's in there, blocked in. the boys will deal with it. I can't take it anymore. it's a nightmare. that smell just doesn't fatigue like some odors... I can make the house reek of onions or garlic and after a half hour, I can't smell it anymore.
 
Ruth has an estranged son about a hundred miles away and cousins even further. so... I'm it, kinda. she's got a few good friends, but she needs more than what they can offer, although I really appreciate it when one will take her grocery shopping or to a doc appt. for the most part, I schedule stuff now, she always takes morning appts and I can't take her because of work. needs to be afternoon. Thursday, we go to the doctor. I'm going to get a note for a "hardship dismount" for her mail. her box is a half mile up, off the private road she lives on and she doesn't drive. it's finally warm enough for her to take a walk, but she isn't always steady on her feet, so if she's not up to it, she really should not do it... a hardship dismount will entitle her to door service. and I would get paid to drive down the road and get out of my car to make it safe for her to retrieve her mail... one needs a doctors not to start the process.

Min's pretty darn senile, although she has moments of sweetness... and she seems to remember me, hops up on my lap, purring... then she usually blows a humongous booger on my lap and
