Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Usually they do..... except for a black copper marans of mine. I got one egg in March and nothing since. :(

Thanks for your reply :)

We had one odd spring day in the middle of winter the other day and there was the egg. I'm hoping it's just the weather?

Lol.... I have looked everywhere for a hidden nest. And since Ratchet has been after them again I have been keeping them in the run until my husband gets home and I can set out with them. Everyone has really slowed down lately. I think maybe it is the heat....?
winter with the shortening days will give you less eggs for those of you in the summer hemisphere.

As for the hot weather, if you have never wormed your chickens, you should do so ASAP, worms can really take a toll on production and flock health.

Loving all the chick pics!

Today I went out to see what was what in da hen haus today.

I'll tell you what is what.

no eggs. no squatting. NO FAKEOUTS.

Penny isn't close. None of them are close. My next plan is to take my pity eggs and put them in the nest box to show the girls that I don't need them. I have lots of pretty eggs of my own.

One chicken egg so far today.
Found one of my 17 week old pullets hung up on the fence this morning...I think she's okay, she had to sit down for a while after I saved her. I brought her into the air conditioning until she started walking around and exploring.

Got 5 quail eggs yesterday! 2 chicken eggs yesterday.

Really enjoying the chick pics...loving them.

2 eggs today
1 brown
1 blue
and Cassy is still on strike,17 days since her last egg..but shes still squatting for me.

Well it's my white marans that is laying in my DH shop/garage. Not surprised as I wasn't sure I had an egg from her yet and I knew she looked red enough to be laying. I figured she was laying elsewhere. I'm just happy we found it and it's convenient enough to leave her there. So I put a fake egg in the nest to let her know it's ok to stay!!

Lots and lots of water!!! Put out extra waters where they like to lounge. Since it's so hot they might not be going to the waterer as much as normal. I think I have 6 waterers for my flock in various locals as some end up being in the sun for a certain part of the day!

Grrr..... I am giving up on ever having Salmon Faverolles..... I went down to check on everyone a little bit ago, and one of my Fav. pullets was sitting off by herself, and very listless. I was able to pick her up with no running around or anything! She seems really light, like maybe she hasn't been getting enough food, which is strange because although they get in the run with the big chickens, they also have food in their coop that the big chickens can't get to. I scrambled her an egg, and she wouldn't touch it, so I am not hopeful that she will pull out of this. I'm not putting any more money into trying to get this breed..... If the remaining two make it, and I can hatch a few eggs great... if not oh well.

Momma and babies are doing wonderful! I think I am going to go back to fermenting my feed, because it seemed to last much longer when I was fermenting than it does now.... I just kinda got tired of the hassle of carrying water down there for the feed on top of what I was taking for the waterers... However, now I am going through a 50lb bag every 2 weeks instead of every 3.... I'm also going to look into some electric poultry netting so they can start ranging again and Ratchet can't get to them.

that's really something you should check on BYC. There are so many variables and decisions to be made about flock health.
Are you organic certified? Do you oppose using chemical/medical wormers? All that stuff is around here, somewhere lol.
