Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

That's too bad.

That's kinda how I feel about Penny, I pick her up and she is just lighter. I haven't picked an ameracauna up in ages though maybe they are light, too. Wilson is HEAVY.

Everyone's combs got a little darker today. Wattles a little longer. Eggs a little non existent. Jerks.

thanks, it's a bummer for sure. she was a good hen.

ready for chick pics???

cuz here they come!
ham shredding lesson #1 was a smashing success! then Mama Peach needed some time to bathe and groom... so she sent the chicks to Auntie Gossy... who can't really get up to chase after them... her eggs are due to hatch tomorrow!

g'nite Auntie Gossy! mwa!

dang lindz, that is a bummer. so sorry... you might be right about the docile personality being it's fatal flaw. it's not too hard to have separate flocks, the Fosters don't mix with the Dome Dwellers during free range (often anyway) they keep to their own territories mostly, but it would mean building another coop...

16 weeks and 3 days old now and ..... wait for it, wait for it..... NOTHING!

These chicks make me want to say my Sunday School lesson backwards

When they want to eat they sure don't have any problem letting me know they want food, but all I get when I tell then it's time for an egg breakfast is blank very indifferent stares back.

It's very rude of them! Then there are the ducks. Don't even get me started on the ducks. They are defective too, I'm sure of it.

I finally logged in on my lap top and found the smileys lol. I thought I was smiley challenged for a while.

Lindz im sorry for your loss and I hope you keep trying if thats what makes you happy.

So get this. I encouraged the breeder of my (stupid, beardless) ameracaunas to try nipple waterers. She asked me all kinds of questions about how I had mine set up, etc...now I find out she's selling them at her local farmer's market. Sheesh, you're welcome. Least you could do is shoot me a bird WITH A BEARD eh? Or maybe a marans? I'd take a marans. I had some with beards. The best one was the bird that vanished out of my yard. She had a nice beard.

Moving on.

I went out to inspect the coop and run this morning. Newsflash. No eggs. No squatting. Bunch of smug birds who expected to be let out. Bad news, ladies. Until I start seeing eggs, free range time is being limited to late in the afternoon. Couple reasons for that. One is because I don't want to miss the first egg. I'll miss it if they lay it under the deck. Secondly, I want to make sure they're eating enough of their food. I want their intake to be mostly chicken feed supplemented by grass and bugs and stuff they find while ranging, not the other way around....at least for now.

So they're just laying around. They'll be 17 weeks tomorrow.

I do believe that I have found a home for one of my Lav Am roos. He wants it for a family pet before introducing hens. He will be getting a sweetie!! Then off I go to go tubing on the lake with the grandkids!
