Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Val - your girls have to be getting close (listen to me....easy for me to say

) The rest of mine better be at least giving it some consideration. It's great that Penny is getting the party started, but I got 6 birds for a reason! Because I need like 2 dozen eggs a week!

Hopefully Wil and Mags are getting close. They aren't squatting, but Wilson used to be impossible to catch and today my 7 year old snatched her up and carried her around, so she's settling down at the very least. If the 3 of them were to lay fairly consistently, we would be in good shape and probably not have to buy eggs anymore if we scaled our consumption back a little while we wait for the 'caunas to get with the program.

Whoo hoo! New people and new egg layers!! Congrats all!!

Mortie mine have been laying since march and I still enjoy the excitement of finding eggs!!!!

Cheeka-one word "VACATION"!!!!!

I'm taking vacation next week. We're not going anywhere but I'll just enjoy the time at home. The kids might come over... I'll try making ore eggs. Phyllis finally laid a beautiful white egg w no poop! She is the only one who will lay a dirty egg every once in awhile. I'm still shocked how clean my eggs come out. I don't wash. Maybe 1 every couple days gets cleaned on the dirty spot only.

I also leave them out for a couple days if I know I'm bringing them to work to sell. I don't like taking them in and out of the fridge cause then they start to sweat. After a couple days or a week I'll throw them in the fridge.

Back to my vac... I also think I'm going to redo my husbands office. Want to give him a rutgers themed football office so red/black walls, a big logo "R" on one wall. I got some beautiful prints for other walls. I'm very excited. Hope to get it done as a surprise!

I will be on vaca next week too! Mine will not be fun, my wife is having surgery on both feet! So she will be confined to the bedroom and the 3 teenagers and myself are in house duty for a couple weeks.

My 19 week old BO's just laid 2 small eggs today.

Here are my four girls. Cuckoo marans is Jackie, Easter Egger is Betty, BA is Wilma, and Lucy the New Hamp. I started out with six 1 week old chicks, two turned out to be boys, so back they went. The cuckoo marans was supposed to be a SLW, oh we'll. I live in the city on 2 acres and you can have 6. But I didn't ask my homeowners assoc first, oops. They granted permission so all is well.. I'm the first in my neighborhood to do this.

Still no eggs...approaching 20 weeks.
they are all lovely and all very close, looks wise, but the EE may keep you waiting another 2 months despite the plumping pink comb... but maybe not! happy to wait it out with you! I've got these to wait on, but I'm pretty certain that one is a roo...

Everyone's chickens are getting in gear
First eggs today!
It's wonderful to hear! (well...now that I am getting eggs that is! lol)
People post pictures of chickens and art
And even their eggs!
Even the egg...er...farts.
Mortie needs more eggs!
More eggs is more fun!
Wil and Mags are almost ready
But today, we laid one.

Tinkershell, such a cute egg!

so many congratulations to go around! I collected 19 today myself... ate 4 of them for dinner - Esther laid and there were 3 other that were on the small side. so, probably more like 2.5 eggs altogether.

the nest box lid is finished and secure. I put leftover shingles from when I had my roof done - those are 20 year shingles. the rest of the coop will disintegrate long before those roof panels! but it's cute that it matches the house.

fresh fruit today was the rest of the peaches and a bunch of strawberries. hit. big time.

Henry carried that fruit, calling for hens... barely had any for himself, he's so delightful to watch, but I really wanted him to eat more

WoW!!! I have a lot of catching up to do.... I just got back from vacation in the San Juan Islands. Pictures to follow, but the most amazing thing.... I totally expected to find Rumples dead or near death. I peeked into the pen and to my surprise... I found 3 blue/green eggs.

My neighbor lady did not look in the Rumples pen for eggs because I told her that Rumples was no longer laying. She is still crippled, but maybe there is hope for her.
