yayayayaya!!!! So happy for you!! I see the light at the end of my egg tunnel hahaha!!
they will vary in shade ever so from one another. it won't be all uniform, kinda nice... my 4 BR's all lay slightly different shades of cream, and Fannie's has such a point on the one end that I always know which one is hers.Question.... Even though all the big pullets are red sex links will there still be a variation in color of eggs? So far I think 3 are laying and one lays a dark egg, one a light egg, and one a kinda .... I hate to say it but a mauve sorta color lol. I guess I thought they would be more uniform in color.
I leave the eggs sitting out for about 4 days. by then, the stock is low in the fridge and the counter basket is getting full anyway... beyond that and they start stacking up and Chester gets tempted if he can reach them. I've managed to keep the nests really clean so for the most part, I am collecting very clean eggs that don't need to be washed. I have a few customers who prefer to leave them out so they only get unrefrigerated eggs. one in particular, doesn't believe me that they are unwashed because they are so clean... now I look for eggs with any kind of spots just for her... lol, I've even invited her over to collect them herself so she can see...Do you all leave you eggs sitting out? I can not get my head wrapped around letting them sit on the counter and not putting them in the fridge lol
Never. highly amusing my friend, just wait til December when I start moaning that the now week old babies here aren't laying let...Nah. You guys are just tired of hearing my 3x a day no egg report![]()
Okay, I'm finally jumping in for the first time! Mortie - how old are your chickens?? I tried to go back and find out but too much to wade through. Your story was fun to follow, so happy for you to have your first egg!
I have 4 hens - all about 19 weeks old. I'm anxiously awaiting my first egg. One (a New Hampshire) has big comb/wattles, is squatting, and is nibbling on oyster shell. I know it could still be weeks, but it's fun to see others get eggs from chickens the same age as mine.
Well I'm happy w my craft day today! Can't wait to get better! For my first try I'm pretty happy!
