Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Question.... Even though all the big pullets are red sex links will there still be a variation in color of eggs? So far I think 3 are laying and one lays a dark egg, one a light egg, and one a kinda .... I hate to say it but a mauve sorta color lol. I guess I thought they would be more uniform in color.

Ok now for the nitty gritty :)

This egg was dropped from the roost. I really think she wanted to lay it yesterday but the guy with the chainsaw threw her off her game. She was really acting crazy. In and out of the coop, sitting in the box, throwing straw on her back. I thought FOR SURE it would be yesterday but since it wasn't, I was sure it would be today. Well...pretty sure.

She knows where to put the egg so I am pretty sure it was laid when it was dark. Thankfully none of them paid it any attention when they woke up because it has a really thin shell. The fat end was dented from the initial impact when it popped out. Naturally, it was situated in a pile of poop. Since the poop was not near the cracked bit and the membrane appeared to be intact, and it was fairly fresh, I made the executive decision to go ahead and eat it as long as we ate it right away.

The color on the shell looked like a bad spray tan. Blotchy and uneven, but totally perfect

. It weighed 40 grams, pretty respectable for a first egg. I used a knife to poke out the dented bit since my intention has always been to blow out my first egg and blew it out. The shell is so thin that almost did it in! It managed to hold together. The yolk was lovely and thick and there were no blemishes on the inside. I half expected some of the crazy things I have seen on here....nope. Not even a blood spot.

It tasted lovely :)

OMG COULD IT BE???

This one is upsidedown....weird. With a large store bought for size comparison

Good job, Penny!

All scrambled up

My hubby is away and my eldest is with grandma and grandpa so my younger two and I each had a bit.
Thanks, Penny!

A special treat was served to the girls. Banana pancakes, popcorn, the remaining bits of Penny's egg, and some french fries.

Crap!! You saying you weighed the egg made me remember I wanted a scale to weigh my first few. Needless to say I don't have one and had totally forgotten about it. :(

I think it's possible to have individual variations, based on my Ameraucanas. My hatchery Hew Hamp lays a really fat and round mauve colored egg. I love the different colors!

Does that mean you already ate it?

We had eaten ours within an hour of finding it! If it hadn't been cracked we wouldn't have I don't think.

The ameracaunas will start when I am in vacation for sure. That's OK :)

Do you all leave you eggs sitting out? I can not get my head wrapped around letting them sit on the counter and not putting them in the fridge lol

All my one egg that I already ate? LOL.

I don't let my store bought eggs sit out. They've been washed and who knows when they were laid. I keep them in the fridge. I want to get an egg skelter and keep my clean fresh eggs in that on the counter. However, I don't have said item nor do I have a collection of clean fresh eggs.

So I'm still waiting lol.

I'm not going to have a carton of eggs sitting on the counter. Frankly that's just one more thing to clutter my counter up that I don't need if it's not going to be at least decorative like I think a skelter is. If you don't know what that is, I suggest you just google it because it's a bit difficult to describe lol.
