Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I do. been there. done that. trust me. the long wait drove us all bonkers, but to finally hold that first tiny egg... it's like suddenly, there was no time at all and it's the most beautiful little treasure...

Poor mortie is waiting on eggs,
ImPatient as can be
Maybe one tomorrow
Maybe two or three!
Penny is almost ready,
Wilson is nearly there,
Maggie could lay any day,
But the Ameracaunas are no where near.
We all have our fingers crossed,
that Mortie's time is near,
So she can jump and shout and dance
for finding that little prize so dear!

I woke up this morning
and rubbed my weary eyes
Should I even bother to go out
And check for a surprise?
I tire of checking and checking some more
Nest box, run, and even coop floor.
I've gotten up early and stumbled outside
Before even coffee!
Hoping to see a hen filled with pride
Always, it's nothing
Always, it's bare
I've never gotten to see
What I hoped would be there.
They have has such fun
Faking me out
It's making me grumpy!
It's making me pout!
I've given them pie
I've given them scratch
Hoping to win their favor
It all went down the hatch
With no eggs to be found
Many breakfasts missed
I've gotten kinda cranky
And I made up a meat bird list.
I'll try to behave
After all, this is supposed to be fun!
