Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

wow, Jemma has some stunning coloring!

I think with the way these birds are bred to produce so much, they probably do need supplementation, but it would take a bit for the full tilt egg production to take enough of a toll on a bird to really have an effect when they are new to laying. One that's been laying 6 months at 5-6 eggs a day will be needing that calcium, I do believe.

A hard day of laying is done
It MUST have been hard -
we only managed ONE!
Makes sense! I didn't realize a shell-less egg was from a too-quick trip down the egg pipe - interesting! When all mine are laying, I plan to switch to the layer feed. In the meantime, I'll use grower feed plus free choice calcium. They supplement with free-ranging for bugs, worms, weeds, etc.

Yeah mine are all almost 22 weeks so my situation is a little different. I personally wouldn't have a problem at all feeding all of mine layer even though only 2 of them are laying because the ones that aren't are within a week or so, maybe 10 days. Couple of em have been in and out of the nests so could be anytime now. But that's mine, my circumstances, etc. As it happens, they are on all flock but if layer is what I had, I wouldn't sweat it a bit with them at the ages they are. They're plenty close for my liking

. I wouldn't have given them layer at 12 wks though.

I just think she's not keeping them in the part where they put the shell on long enough. She'll get the hang of it!

Morning!

I am thinking I should get out of bed because I am babysitting my friends 2 month old and 5 year old today. I am too nice and I can't say no. As if my own kids weren't enough. I never did recover from our horrible experience running errands yesterday. I just could not cope for the rest of the day and hubby was gone until late so he was no use. I got no work done on my quilt which is sitting in a very scary state of not doneness and I need it done by Sunday. I have really backed myself into a corner this time! Argh!
