Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I don't know that you would be able to find chicks this late in the season...... at least not easily. If you wan to take the chick I think sooner would be better so she doesn't panic and still leave the eggs. I am hoping that one of the other mommas will take it! Good luck!

Clindz, do you have any out yet?
I'm going down to check on everyone and will be back soon with pictures!

I showed the chick to Peach, she pecked it. so I scrapped that idea for the moment. I thought I might try again at dark. but I don't think I need to. Gossamer made her own arrangement with her daughter Cressa. Cressa is too small to finish sitting on the eggs, but she could teach the new baby how to eat and drink and keep it entertained while Mama finishes sitting (hopefully...) but Cressa can get out easily should Gossamer change her mind. Gossamer and the new baby can't get out...

15 Eggs today!!

That chick is ADORABLE!!!

Cressa is cute too. Sounds like Gossamer has solved her own problem. I wonder if she would leave eggs that are peeping. Don't they start peeping 2 days before hatch? If she can hear the unhatched chicks, and this chick is content with food and water nearby, I'll bet ol' Sillie will stick with the nest. She still looks pretty pancakey.

Okay.... I know how I would answer this if some one else was posting, but.... I cannot see the forest through the trees. Jemma started lay a little over 2 weeks ago. egg farts, rubber eggs, this shells etc..... She is sporadic in her laying and has not laid in two days. I know that she is working out the bugs, but I get concerned when it happens to moi.

On the other side of the forest.... Nugget has laid 23 days in a row. Perfect rock hard little eggs. Not a glitch or hiccup.

Oh and we thought it'd make transitioning to the barn easier if we let Rawley sleep in the bed!
Umm epic fail???

I have heard people recommend calcium supplements (tablets or liquid calcium), but I don't know how much you would give. My gold sexlink, who died last month at 2½, laid shell-less eggs off and on (mostly on) for most of her life. Never could find a fix for her. Jemma is still new at this business, so it may just be a matter of time.

My O my!! Rawley is huge!!! Then girls get oyster shells free choice and I feed them layer feed. I know that Jemma is new at this, but ..... I did get 4 perfect eggs from her. I worry too much when it happens to MY hens.

Time to herd the girls into the pen.
