Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I figure you are pretty far north. It will take some more time for your girls to pick up. It should be soon though.

I will need to start collecting with a basket again. there were too many today for me to carry at one time so I had to make two trips to collect the eggs.

13!

One thing you will learn about me is that I like to complain about things when I know darn well why they're happening and they can't be helped. I drove these poor folks completely insane last summer with my constant whining about eggs (lack of) so they've cone to expect it and I actually worry I've been boring them all this time. Calling them showoffs for getting eggs when I am having a drought is just my way of telling them I enjoy their company on this thread lol. Poor mortie will always be bummed about not getting eggs lol. I am far north and it is dark and my eggs are coming. It's all good :) It also didn't get past my sly brain that you threw in a comment about having to collect with a basket again... Nice one. My basket has been collecting dust for a while...

Oh good. Yup, no special treatment for princess behavior! Haha, I like the mental image of you, the cup bearer, bring the princess her royal chalice of sparkling water. While my chickens guzzle from their fount that they like contaminate in all kinds of ways.

I don't understand how the chickens feel about the snow, sometimes the will step on it and it doesn't bother them, but mostly they avoid it. In the summer time, they sometimes can scoot out the door of my henhouse before I get in to shut it behind me. And if I'm not paying attention, one chicken out the door is followed by two more, then it's a stampede. Now I can leave my henhouse door WIDE open while I'm doing chores. They get up on the edge and look down. They seems to say, "I don't think so!" I am hoping next year it is not such a shock for them and they will venture out...once in while. It feels cramped in their run, especially when I am in there, trying to clean.

I'm cracking up at the mental picture of me coming at her with a golden chalice of sparkling water as well. Perhaps a flask? Maybe I should rig up a water tubing system to deliver water to her. Right on the roost with a second outlet near the nest box just in case she wants to...you know...lay an egg or something.

Meanwhile, Penny continues to lay every day at the same time without fail. I love Penny.

We are around 47.7 degrees north latitude. Where are you? Any body?
I'm in New Jersey so we get 4 seasons and nothing really extreme... Well except superstorm sandy!

Still getting 5-8 a day. I think a couple are pullet eggs. I keep saying I need to get pictures but never do anything about it.

Darina if this is their first year w snow they should be better next year. At least that is how my chickens were. Now we haven't gotten much more than a coating but last year if there was a single flake on the ground they stayed inside. Now they are out all the time regardless.

Congrats Ron on the 13. How many chickens do you have?

Since I am a geocacher i happen to know we're at 44 degrees lat lol. The sun rises today at 7:24 and will set at 4:37.

It is snowing right now. Perfect light snow like in a snow globe.

Probably is. Plus you probably gave them pie. I gave mine pie the other day. Didn't help a bit. In fact I think they've laid fewer eggs since then.

So guys. I'm not sure if I mentioned this but I finally pulled the trigger and plumbed my aquarium into my basement. I've been sitting on pretty much everything I needed to do it for a year and just finally did it. Expanded from 150 gallons to almost 300 gallons. Last night hubby and I spent 2 hours redoing all the electrical. The whole works uses...probably something like 15 outlets. I have a controller that allows me to monitor and control pretty much everything I want from any computer or my phone. It emails me when something is out of whack or it can text me but I don't have that set up. It's pretty snazzy. With the basement stuff that will make maintaining it easier since I don't have to make salt water in my living room anymore for my water changes. Fun times. The electrical though...man that took some doing. Sorting everything out, labeling all the plugs, putting them in the right outlets so the controller can do its thing...yeesh.

This to distract me from my nagging thoughts that there is no way we can win this weekend. We could have but with Rogers gimpy I'm not feelin it....

I think we need to see some pics of your aquarium. Some of your fishies must lay eggs. Don't those count? You just have to collect them before they eat them.

You are going to have a long week. Keep the faith!
