Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

it's been pouring all day. we haven't had a rain free day since Mylee left. some clear moments, but rain... everyday. it's been a week or so since the fox killed Stella... I wasn't going to let them out anyway, but the rain has been a good excuse. now I'm ready for it to stop. it's only 55 degrees. I'm ready to turn the furnace back on...

I made a Pie so the flock could have a hot meal. now I have sat like a lump all day. very boring. no good movies on either.

same here cheeka....we finally saw the sun about 10 mins before it set....it was 57 here yesterday & only 67 today...made banana bread yesterday... and yes bored out of my head...

No we had to use the blu-kote when 1 of the 2 new hens was pecking our last of the 4 of our girls.....it worked we only had to use it once, now she got pecked that nite cause we saw blu/purple on Marie's beak the next day and Gladys was missing a chunk of the blu/kote, but she never really pecked her again...But I'm glad you found this i'm going to bookmark it and make some if we have a problem again...THANKS!

I only ask because I saw somewhere maybe on byc that the blu kote was not proven to be safe but not proven in safe for chickens. The can saws not to be used on horses intended for food that's why I was asking. Check out that site

Oh I read it and bookmarked it and am going to make some when I need it. It was a very interesting article and useful as well. Mine have stopped pecking each other YAY! When we bought the blu-kote no one told us it was bad for the hens or eggs....we only used a little, didn't seem to harm them or eggs..

ps....maybe someone with a little more knowledge on the subject of this product can answer your question......

My new roo just ripped a quarter size chunk of skin out of my hens neck! I have them separated now. Besides neosporen what should I put on her neck, if anything?

x2 on Blue Kote. but clean the wound and use the neosporen until it gets a scab. keep her separated until you can put Blue Kote on, otherwise the hens will peck at it. she'll be okay. I have a hen who had her top knot ripped off, it was like a little plug, that when pulled, caused the top of her head to simply droop open into the most ghastly wound... she survived. it's been 2 years, and she's finally getting some feathers back!

should have said... your new roosters is young? he needs to learn some manners or you won't be wanting to keep him... roosters who dance until they receive the squat, or move on until they find a hen who will are the real gems... I don't like it when they are grabby. hope he outgrows it...

Raining here a ton too! Last night I was drenched trying to get the babies to bed. They didn't want to leave the cover of the outside coop they were hiding under. The things we do for our chickens.

So MC any eggs?

Nice set up Ming! I'm partial to polish and esp buff laced. Tho all my polish are very "unique" personality wise. They cause me many tense moments. I'm in love w my silver laced Wyandotte. They are pretty and very sweet! I'm up to 38 and have so many breeds I couldn't choose if I had to!!

Thankfully my neighbors are nice which is a fishing since about 8 of my chickens went wandering over today. They got some dirt delivered so of course my girls had to check it out!

Lol are your polish as mad as the ones I have had in the past? I had one who decided that she didn't like the coop so roosted on top of a fence or on top of a ten foot bush, it was a nightmare getting her down.

I am leaning towards getting a Wyandotte, what kind of eggs does yours lay? If I decided on a Wyandotte though, I would then have to pick between Blue laced red wyandottes, gold laced and silver laced.

I have hijacked a couple of threads asking about which breeds I should get and the overall consensus is to get more chickens, eight is simply not enough! :)
