we register our chickens here in delaware, they send out letters about any sickness going around, also they have a meeting once a year you get a free dinner, they talk about what is going on about any sickness and what to do for problems you may have, we have found it very helpful and don't mind registering them.

OH Cheeka.....my prayers are with you!I have 15 chicks and Gossy wants to sit again...
some see it as a violation of privacy up here, but I suspect they've got other problems or things to hide... I think it is useful, but it's not done here (yet)
okay so the medical nonsense.
I don't have Lyme yet. the blood tests that my hospital/doctor uses are the more unreliable ones. 50% unreliable. clinical diagnosis goes hand in hand and I have over 20 of the corresponding symptoms. thing is, they are the same symptoms for MS. I have 10 lesions on my brain. both conditions can apply here. so I wait.

Cheeka thoughts w you. About 9 yrs ago I had so many unexplained symptoms but nobody would treat as I always came back neg for lymes. However I finally found a neuro who said because of living in nj they should always treat for lymes if nothing else came back. Thankfully he gave me a full round of antibiotics and I've been fine since (and I'm not one who takes meds or sees a dr so to take drugs wo a confirmed diagnosis was scary but a month of antibiotics vs leaving potentially lymes untreated ws worth the chance.)

Too bad about the Rooster troubles, OK. Maybe build a smaller honeymoon pen where he can focus on one hen at a time. I read on some of the heritage breed threads that fertility can be a problem with the larger breeds. People choose to keep the more docile males, but it might be that a little aggression goes along with getting the job done. I have a tiny little Serama rooster and no fertile eggs. It's not for lack of trying, he's just to small to reach!
Cheeka, that's just too frustrating. I understand about the problems that come from over using antibiotics, but like CLindz's experience, it seems well worth the risk to me. Can you get a second opinion? Preferably from a doctor that uses a more accurate test... The alternative diagnosis is very sucky. Hope you don't have either.

hypercalcemia caused by a parathyroid adenoma has a lot of symptoms of MS. Check your blood calcium level and see if it is over 10. If so, you may need to insist that you are treated because the medical community is notorious for not treating this very terrible illness.I have 15 chicks and Gossy wants to sit again...

My Wife has had this for at least 15 years. We are finally getting it fixed next week.

thanks everyone - I will be going to another facility in about 2 weeks, but they don't take insurance... out of network never pays you back like an in network facility, but they are the leading authority here. they'll do the other blood tests because they don't have to fight with insurance companies... I have to pay, but I would pay through my current doc too... he just won't order it. period. plus they will test for the co-infections that are commonly associated with Lyme, come back positive with any and I'm good to go, and they will lean more toward the other clinical symptoms too and are likely to allow me to have the first month of antibiotics... if I get a positive test or positive response to the treatment, then we'll know... nowadays, it's longer than a month to really recover, a huge percentage of people only recover 90% with one month tx. the last 10% can take as much as a year! mostly battling the co-infections that like to linger...
and thank you ron, I do have my labs, and my calcium is 8.9 - but all issues must be looked at closely. I know how serious that condition is, my prayers for your wife and for you and the family have been and will continue to be said!

Recently I bought two point of lay Plymouth Barred Rocks. Maybel began laying eggs in the nest last week. She laid two, took a day off and then laid 4. She hasn't laid an egg for three days now! Anyone know what gives?
could be the heat... but most likely it's just getting her plumbing in order, remember they aren't consistent at the beginning
