Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Quote: LOL! my gaming persona is out and about... running a market, a cafe, sometimes a flower shop... too funny.

I need to inspect those photos Scrambles... does look like you have a bunch of boys - that much development by 4+ weeks isn't a good sign, but I've had pinking combs at 3 weeks that turned out pullet... so... give me a few

Scrambles...
#1 I'm leaning toward boy, it would be great if I'm wrong.... like I was with my Frankie pullet
#2 Maybe pullet, but only because the comb is pale, it's pretty substantial... fingers crossed!
#3 I need to see more face, could go either way
#4 Boy
#5 Boy

I am still not sure I am doing the trip. It is making me too nervous. One, leaving the chickens all that time. And add to that I don't know when Dave will be showing up again. I have to be here if he comes through. Ofcourse, having to deal with family that long is hard too.

As for Jazlyn, I hope she will be okay. I just had her for five days, with a 6-hour break on Sunday. NINE HOURS without a diaper change or nap. She was about to go down for her first nap when her other aunts showed up to take her.

I learned some things about the "care" she gets elsewhere this week.
If nothing else, I'll be getting a crap load of new clothes for her next week.

MC... sounds like you are better mom than Jaz's bio mom. That poor little one gets bounced around too much. She is lucky to have you,

Cheeka.... Ya... I figures that I have 2 pullets and 3 roo. But I guess that #1 and #3 were pullet. I went out today to look at them and they ran and hid from me. I cant even look at them now without them freaking out. Thanks... (truth be told.... I think its more like 1 pullet and 4 roo)

The smoke has been so bad here that we have to keep the windows shut. Dare I say it???? Come on WINTER.

I just looked..... again: #1 is pullet. Betting on it. She is the smallest chick with a single comb. #4 is the next largest also single comb, but pink and large. The other 3 I am betting on roo. Oh well.... I did want one

or 2 keepers. I have a home for a cockerel, and the others will go to freezer camp. I will get more pics in a week or so.

Scrambles, for your sake, I hope you got 4 pullets, but still think you won the jackpot.

(cheeka, check out the wattles on #3) I'll be curious to see how they come out. Third one is a nice looking bird. Sure hope the smoke clears for you. Doing the rain dance for ya!

We have an actual chance of having actual rain on Friday. Actually a slight chance.

Oh MC, too bad about your trip, but I understand about not wanting to leave the birds. Although in my case, it's because I hate to keep asking my family to look after my critters while I'm gone. They're the only ones I trust to do it and to be in my house. Hate the thought of someone going through my stuff!

Egg update:
Of 10 laying hens: 1 is broody, 3 are molting, 2 don't lay, 1 was broody and is still acting really weird/mean and not back to laying.
That leaves 3 out of 10. Today I got 3 eggs so a perfect day!

Kind of sad, huh?

Satisfied with the work I had done on the turkey pen, I let the chickens out of the run. Within 15 minutes all five hens were in the turkey pen. Steven was running around, being male. I shut the pen, and watched Steven. He waited until I was gone to try to get in. I opened the pen again and walked away. Just as he was about to go in, a hen wandered out. I now have two hens and a rooster trying to get into their new pen, but running when I go to open it.
I also have more splinters than I can count.
