Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Good Morning!

Quick Learners!

the underflufflings she won't show us...

still hiding a few on us... so I took the peckin' of a lifetime to show you all ELEVEN!

I believe the very darkest chick came from Neffy's egg. the rest should have been sired by Dutch, Brutus and maybe Red. if any become huge suckers for bantams, then RJ, my one large fowl cockerel is a fertile youngster!

Yeah. One of my easter eggers is mad at me for taking pictures. Once I gave them a bunch of treats (bread and grapes; they're favorite) she quieted down a bit. Of course, she still had to poop on my (new) shoes. Great morning.

ahh poopy shoes is just the start of the fun! if you have yet to sit on a poop or put your hand squarely on a freshy upon rising from the ground, you're in for a treat! oh, and while you'll be careful for a while, pocket egg scramble is a highlight of chicken keeping you have yet to look forward to! I'm sure y'all will add to the list!

Ah, you've joined the club! Poop is just basic initiation.

I have some chickens with a deathly fear of the camera. Very few pics of them.

I was going to ask you about the dark one. Very pretty!

If you could refine a line to look like Neffy, I'd be a customer, she's so cute. So if you're taking orders, Neffy lookalikes with clean legs and not so broody would be perfect. (feathered legs and constant broodiness is conducive to mites around here- mites, which have returned in the bantam coop

- mostly due to having 4-6 hens constantly broody all summer.

The chick with the dotted face is interesting too. Reminds me of a Wyandotte or Campine chick. Some of the light ones have the horn colored beaks, pretty! and you're right, most of them have dome heads. (Dome Head is my hub's nick-name for Belle the big black dog) Going to be a cute group. Fingers crossed for lots of pullets!

the day just keeps getting better! I found an ejected opened shell next to Mama Cressa so I did some poking around...!
W4W, my plan is to put Neffy and Brutus together, very soon and permanently... it is my plan to overtake the world with tiny, clean legged, streamlined, hugging chickens. you can have first pick in 2016!

Neffy has never shown signs of broodiness, friskiness yes... good little layer too, but so far

she hasn't caught the bug and she lives with some of the most die-hard broody's I have! someone else would have to hatch those eggs... I'm also considering buying the little Brinsea that doesn't do much more than a half dozen large fowl eggs at once... I didn't get any large fowl chicks this year. only bantams, and so far I'm up to 29 hatched for the season, more girls than boys overall with the older bunches, but still... too many cute as can be cockerels.

That small Brinsea was one I considered for the Serama eggs. Small hatches to keep from from going chick crazy! Glad I didn't get it. The only rooster I have is tiny and so far have not seen any fertile eggs. Woohoo! Zero temptation! One of the best things about an incubator is being able to hatch in very early spring so they have a long growing season before winter. Get eggs the first year too.

I need to take a pic of the bantam coop. Can't see the bedding, it's covered with feathers! One moulting bantam cochin is all it takes! Poor Bunny!
