Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Fortunately, no rain today. Unfortunately, the wind blew my front door open (which is normal if it isn't shut right) and the run door. The flock came to me, but Sturgis chased them off. I got some in, some went out. Some in... All six are playing near the lilac bush. I don't think I'll get them in until later. I just hope Jazlyn isn't here yet. If they haven't gone in on their own (the wind keeps blowing the door shut when they try to go in on their own) she'll be in the way while I'm trying to guide them in. Oh well. I'm sure they will get in somehow.
Four eggs again today.

lucky you no rain - we got a torrent from late morning til late afternoon, I only got 2 eggs, and I went to Lowe's and got clear corrugated panels for the back pen.
12' tall, 2' wide, and not a single soul to help me get them down. so I did it myself. 22 of them. no one to help load the truck either, but I got them all in, tied down and flagged what was hanging out. of course, there's no one to help me unload and haul to the garage... but I will have help on Sunday to install. old handyman is coming back for the day. new handyman was supposed to help me pick up supplies today, but he blew me off and went downstate. those panels are going up on Sunday even if I have to do it myself! I asked for help 2 months ago. nothing like waiting til the absolute last minute... it's my fault, I should have just done it myself to begin with. I just don't have the best tools... and I'm crooked and wobbly with blurry double vision, so things I hang that I think are straight... are most definitely... not.

Yeah, waiting for help is sometimes a mistake. I tackled the upstairs on my own. It didn't go perfectly, and (as I suspected would happen) a mattress almost pushed me down the stairs. However, it does look a lot better, and it wasn't as impossible as I feared. Now if I could get the rug up in the spare bedroom. There is a weak area in the floor. One part feels like if I were to stand on one foot, and jump up and down, it would snap the board. I'm hoping it's nothing. These floors are supposed to be thick oak boards. If nothing else, I'll have to have a sub floor put in. There's a chance I can get Jazlyn up there.

Having her outside the bathroom door (bedroom before indoor plumbing. An open office with a bathroom after) will be great when potty training, but not good when I have to go, or company comes while she's sleeping.
The chickens managed to get stuck inside the run off the side coop. I was supposed to clean that coop when the ground dried (so today) but decided not to. I broke the pop door off trying to open it, and the chickens couldn't find me through the 6' weeds. It was a dirty fun time. I eventually had to get them to come back out of the run. I blocked the door for the time being, but I will have to either staple a feed bag in front of it, or actually clean that coop, and fix the door next week.

on weds got 2 eggs. figured I had 2 girls laying...last 2 days only 1 egg a day....confused and disappointed. Think I need a live video feed to see what's going on.
Found an egg on the ground in the run around 3pm.......oh no! Gotta girl too excited to visit the next.

oh you may have a few layers, grandma, and they're taking turns... it takes a while for "regulararity" to set in, they're working out their plumbing now... but a chicken cam sounds fun!

so, I ranted a little here and a little on Facebook, and before I got home from work today, I had a message from my friend, I think here, her handle is horsekeeper... offering help and tools. shoo'... this woman rocks!
in 3 hours we had tyvek up on the roof line and the entire 30' east wall DONE. it is gorgeous. my photos do not do justice. but the old tarp, plastic, vinyl and bags of leaves were heaped just a few feet away and I really didn't want that crap in the pictures. we can finish next week, I have enough for the front, and it will take us less than 3 hours I bet, even with cutting for the doors!

Ha! I can see them watching!

now there are also 4 x 4's along the base, but the panel does go to the ground. it's skirted with hw cloth.

betcha I hear crowing earlier than usual now that the east wall is clear!

notice the postal envelopes? those are made from tyvek. the PO changed the logo, those can no longer be used for mail and because they do not have tyvek recycling, offices were told to throw them out.
yeah. we're salvaging as many as we can from local offices to repurpose them. it is insanity to throw them away.

MC, I really wish we were closer cuz me and my friend would come and we could bang out all the work together while taking care of Jazlyn. it's not easy to do on your own, but I know you can do it, just be slow, deliberate, and careful! no falling down the stairs for sure!!

Cheeka, the coop looks fantastic! I noticed the mailers. Looks cool. The Postal Coop. When you and your friend are done helping MC, you can head on out here and help me put up a sun room. Doesn't a sun room sound nice? I've always wanted one. And now your chickens have one. I'm envious of your chickens!

I'm somewhat envious of my chickens. that pen is going to be incredible. and the Dome will be getting their clear front wall as usual, and 3 windows with the 2 x 2" panel bits leftover from cutting 3 down to 10' lengths. the others overlapped, that pen has one end that is triangular. I got one extra chain link panel with a door, so I opened the end and gave them more space. it changed the angles and dimensions on the back - the front is fairly straight forward, just 2 outer doors to cut in. easy stuff. plenty of clear panels and lots and lots of vinyl and tyvek left to work with, I'll be setting up chairs in Brutus's section. coffee with the babies. the Dome should get a few more windows when all is said and done, sun roof type deal too, just brush snow off, til we have that major storm, then it's covered until a thaw, but it will be fun!
