Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

OK, congrats on yet another perfect day! there's no doubt... Pie Rules. especially Worm Pie! even Roger couldn't contain her Pie excitement ~ the egg probably flew out, happy it didn't break!

my gang sneezes when I give them tiny seeds, like millet, or quinoa. I think they inhale them, literally. they suck em up so fast, gotta tickle...

jchny!!! Congratulations!!! glad I'm not the only crazy December chick raiser! cannot wait for pics!!! the rest of the chicks are doing great, even the other little runt has shot out some pretty wing feathers, they are all so cute! I do have pictures, will post them tonight after supper, mostly group shots in the crate, but most of them will crop nicely to highlight one or two. the flash used to freak them out, hence the funny wings in the air shots and the whoa! falling over pics... now they run right up to the lens and challenge it! cracks me up!

W4W, I've caught that show - love it when whichever guy it is starts saying "oooh, there's a squatch out there!" I'm hooked lately on Alaska, the Last Frontier. on Discovery. it's about a family who live off the land, and how they use the short amount of time before winter hits to make sure they have enough food to survive. pretty cool show,

Long day today... waiting now for enough daylight to go out to take care of the gang... quarter of seven already and it's still pitch dark outside. gotta leave in a half hour... c'mon daylight!

Eight! Eight! Yesterday we laid EIGHT! Our first perfect day
wee.gif
Even the rooster laid an egg! Well, he must have, I only have seven hens
wink.png

The truth to the story, yesterday was chore day and I found one of the ones that the EE girls had hidden while I was turning their litter. I just kind of floated over to me like it was riding a wave.

I think I am going to cry. I had no idea that these chicks would take so long to lay! One egg/day is getting old. I am feeding 14 girls that SHOULD be laying, but aren't! Even my cross beak should be laying by now. She is over 8 months old! Born the end of March or first week of April. She acts like a roo sometimes, but no shiny saddle feathers or long tail feathers. So... What gives??
I want eggs!!!!!!!

I don't know what all the controversy is about, Bigfoot absolutely does exist and I have photos taken with the Nikon, I just can't download them to the tablet, if I can get an adaptor I will. Bigfoot is much more elusive than bears, highly intelligent with well developed senses, they spot you far before you know they are there. Their habits are meticulous and leave no trace behind, their thick coat is brindled, which blends into the forest well, and they will adorn their hair with leaves twigs, moss, grasses, and wildflowers, which is not only effective camoflauge but looks pretty and smells good. You could walk right by Bigfoot, lying snuggled in the underbrush and never even notice. Bigfoot is omnivore and subsists largely on roots and wild plants, acorns, and all nuts and berries. They seem to have a developed moral sense and do not raid farms and gardens cultivated by others. They have been know to cultivate their own gardens and tend to wildlife already established in the area. In fact it is believed that Bigfoot does not bury their deceased, but allow scavengers to clean the body, then they grind the bones and return that to the soil for specific plants. Just one of the reasons we have no dna to study. If you've ever come across an area that has a patch of plants growing, without any weeds, it was probably tended by Bigfoot. They don't cultivate in rows, but scatter the plants without digging too much, and then take each plant as it matures. They do tend to winterberries,, and seem to enjoy the bitter taste, but I've never seen a bush completely cleaned of the berries that the birds need to sustain themselves through the winter. Bigfoot really isn't that big. A mature Bigfoot may grow to 7 feet with a size 14 track, but that's a trophy. Bigfoot is slow to mature, taking 30 years to reach a maximum height and weight, but then an interesting thing happens, Bigfoot starts to shrink in size, actually becoming smaller with age, so a 60 year old Bigfoot may only be 5 feet tall with a size 7 foot track, yet still retains an agile and toned physique. Which leads me to another misnomer....big foot is very athletic, graceful in fact and very quiet running through the woods, not the lumbering shuffling gait you may have seen in some fictitious home movies. I'd say they are far more graceful and quiet than deer even. Not having found any DNA, its quite difficult to determine the species, so, given that some people would trap them and do who knows what, and given they are not inclined to be a nusaince in any way, I wouldn't allow any hunting or disturbing of them, rather set aside a portion of land where they wont be molested, and stay out of that area myself. The few times that I have had to go through there I ignore them and act as though I didn't see anything. I hope this helps clear things up a bit.

Dare I hope? I walked into the coop thismorning, and Penny was in a nest, so I looked around hopefully, and then left. I went in about an hour ago ... And there was an extra egg!! It was on the floor in the corner. I had looked there earlier, but I could have missed it. She didn't give me an egg Saturday, but I think I would have found it by now. It was a medium, and she gives me larges. It could be a new layer ...

I am gonna go crazy until I know for sure.

Congratulations Lilwanis! that's so awesome!

FIVE for me today, all but one BR... only one cream egg...and everyone roosting nicely when I collected them in the darkness... I do hate that, getting home in the darktime! the chicks are fine, the house was dark dark... I forgot to leave a light on, and they were all sleepin', but woke up and have been hoppin' and flappin' and peepin' and poopin' quite actively since I disturbed them. I will pull the latest album of pics up after I eat, and crop some shots for y'all to see...

MC, hang in there, it's the toughest time of year to wait, but there are so many aspects involved... I'm hoping you have lots of eggs tomorrow! maybe they will all start at once! mine all started within 2 weeks of one another, dribs and drabs then boom! crazy eggs!

ACW, only makes sense to me that they exist, and not as big ole lumbering hulks, your description is good, and probably most accurate. personally, I hope we never find them. they've gone all this time without human intervention, they deserve peace and quiet. from humans, they'd get poked, prodded, tested, killed, autopsied... and if they don't exist, don't spoil my fun and love of folklore.

gots me new-identical-to-the-lost-ones Muck Boots today.

I decided that I DO need them. for easy slip on and off morning-chicken-feeding-wear.

Tip of the day:
In certain parts of Northern California, if you come across anything that even remotely looks cultivated while out in the woods, you should skedaddle and leave the area as quickly as possible. Watch out for trip wires and booby traps, and make sure you don't accidentally grab any parts of the tended plants. The "gardeners" are quite protective of their "produce." And they aren't bigfoot.

Related question:
If Edna sees one bigfoot, she says "I saw a bigfoot!" If Ed sees several of them, should he say "I saw some bigfeet!"????

Egg news:
Got 5 so far today. Have to check one last time. Once one of mine laid after sunset! It was Spot, of course. I let her sleep in the nest box.

MC: Sounds like you got a new layer! I've never heard of their eggs getting smaller, unless they're starting up again after a molt or other egg stoppage. WahHoo!
