Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

So you are entering the "Should I buy eggs or wait it out " phase. Are you sure you want to do this? lol I bet your most accurate prediction will be the Feb 2013 ice storm egg prediction. Be sure to report any squatting because thats a good sign that someday they will lay a egg. Soon after that you will question the sex of the animal your dealing with. Don't name them yet. Well.....you been around long enough to know this stuff.

What!? Most of my eggs have little feet and heads and are running around the brooder pen, about two dozen this month...good thing they are so darn cute!
Question....when that broody hen hatches those little chicks do you take them from her right away and put them in the brooder or will she protect them and take care of them.

SIX....SIX....

THE BIG HALF DOZEN

We Did Six Today
Wish Us Lots Of Luck
We All Laid A Egg
Except For Carl And Chuck

Carl and Chuck
need more than luck,

to seal their fate,
it would be so great

to simply not make you beg
and each produce one little egg

Carl and Chuck...
oh please comply
else you end up
a chicken fry...

Leave them with the hen, she teaches them everything and protects them, keeps them warm and sheltered from rain. Tonight one taught them how to climb up the ladder into the coop...lots of patience there.

Five so far......Carl and Chuck are trying to hold out again today. If they start playing that game they just might lose their watermelon privilege.

I have a question. My hen hatches her eggs, and takes care of the chicks. That is nature, and that is great. How the heck do those chicks get out of the nesting box? Falling is the only thing I can think of, and it is making me think twice about having my nest boxes hanging.
