Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Sell them, keep some... mean ones will go to the freezer tho. I am trying to get NPIP certified, then I will start selling

. No one within miles of me sells chicks of any kind. You have to go to the city and feed stores, or do a hatchery order.

She's a doll. Her name is Wilma.
my first guess was cow calf, she is precious... and the piglets are exceptionally adorable...

This is my Wilma... the BR of course... looking haughty and insisting that I do something about all the snow immediately! Isis is lookin' ratty in her molt, but otherwise is lovely...

I had 6 eggs today, but one was frozen and broken, and I broke another one... so annoying! it was a lovely chilly day, sunny and no wind. I let the gang out for some free range and finally brought the chicks back out to the portable run. we're supposed to get a couple of snow storms, but no frigid temps for the next week... they should not need to come back inside again. they'll adjust. I made 7 trips with 2 birds each time, Si supervising the yard crossing for each pair. he is mighty interested in them. the other 2 boys finally noticed them as well, so it was right amusing to come out with the next pair and have all the boys leading the way... I invited a friend to come up tomorrow to see the chicks as they've really grown... and we can let them out into the yard for the first time. I don't want to do it alone... too many birds to keep track of til they group up and have learned the lay of the land... and I bet... that because I have some help, they'll all stay huddled together in a very manageable group and make me look silly.

Ugh same here, one was frozen and broke. it will go to the pigs tomorrow. I am hoping to get my big chicks out tomorrow too, i have turkeys coming in a month so i am way behind on my "plans" They have been in the unheated breezeway for over a month. started with a heat lamp out there and now its nada. Nice big fluffy girls, am just very happy with them. My daughters are off tomorrow and i told them i want a photo shoot, the new babies are growing so fast.I noticed some have thick black bars across their wings. only a few and those are getting tail feathers faster. the tails are barred on those 3 also... Betcha that's my roosters. I went straight run since I will be breeding these to sell. I do want to pick another breeder to have a separate lineage on the birds and mix them.
We have a couple outside trips, sorta with my big chicks. the dogs' fenced run is off the breezeway, with a 6ft fence. they really didn't come far out, all ran right back in, chickens!

I plan a lockdown in the new coop about 3 weeks, then we will add an outdoor run for them during the day. More fences..busy spring!

Man I'm jealous of everyone's chicks. I love having chicks, but don't have any room for grow outs . *sigh* this is why I have birds at work. To bad none are friendly

Aww, that would stink. Butters has become a pet, my oldest carries him everywhere. She plans on him getting a chicken diaper! I am really getting attached to Rebel too, i even gave him a small piece of my steak tonight. I won't even share my steak with DH! JK lol. You need a little silkie (or 2?), they don't take up any space and really love being held, even the roo's.

Do silkies do well in a LF flock? I have a very friendly BR named Mo. But 5 of my 8 are game birds, and they just aren't super friendly

Quote: I am not sure on that, this is my first one. And its not looking like he will get to find out, my oldest has turned him into her pet and i have to fuss her to get her to put him back in the crate. (she is 30 years old!!) He even gets cuddles from my dad. I think in most cases, they have to be raised together to do well is what i've read.

Candled my goose eggs, I have 6 definite veins and lil blobs i am sure are developing chicks. The remaining 8 i don't see veining.but no odors from the eggs. this was day 5 and 7 for these eggs. Doing the chicken eggs next... Out of 13 that were set first, One egg isn't looking like its developing... Day 14. Getting opinions from the hatchaholics so i know what to do next, but I figure its a good idea to dispose of those that aren't going to hatch soon as possible. My Dad had one group of geese with no gander and wouldn't take the eggs. Eww, that's the worst ever smell

Dear Roger

I can hear your distress call. No one should have to endure the pain
you must be going thru. Frozen water in itself is a tragedy. I know going
into the coop for fresh water thats not frozen is out of the question. But
what most likely will be your demise is the treats being 15 minutes late.
I'm sure PETA will be knocking on the door any minute now because
you have never hesitated to call them. I realize the situation is getting
worse by the minute. I can see your flat on your back with your feet in
the air from my window. Thanks for the 15 eggs you have given me in
the year you have been here. I'm sorry I was only able to afford $300.
worth of scratch and $200. worth of layer crumble in the same time
period. I forgive you for pooping in my bathtub and eating the loaf
of bread that was off limits in the kitchen. I hope you survive this crisis
and I will render aid as soon as I finish my coffee. It don't look good for
you as my cup is still half full and the distress calls are getting weaker.
I hope this message reaches you in time and you are able to survive the
next 15 minutes till I can give you the special attention you require
DAD

PS....There is 50 pounds of layer crumble in the feeder I just filled it
last night
