Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

We got 8 eggs today! First time I've seen that many in about a month. Still don't think they're cured of whatever the problem is. I used the most questionably ineffective (but safest) thing out there, and it was certainly questionably ineffective. I have to do the follow up worming tomorrow and got a different (and very pricey) wormer which kills all the types they can get. If this doesn't help them, then I am stumped. No eating eggs for 2 weeks, not even for the dogs, with this new stuff. Seems almost criminal to toss the eggs.

Luckily, I have a few dozen saved up from before all this started. We are using them sparingly to make 'em last. I certainly don't want to buy eggs. Guess we are waiting it out for a different reason than most!

Ugh W4W best of luck on the new stuff! I hope to do the whole gang Saturday, the rain etc should be gone by then. I have to bathe the piggies and way too cold yet for that! I think I will just do a spot on each ones backs. The pour on needs to make skin contact to work and they are all muddy, think they would be too cold to waller?

Its so cute watching them, they all pile on top of bacon and snuggle in the hay.

Ohh i forgot, we got 3 goose and 4 chicken eggs today!!! Bunny hit her 4th day in a row!

32 goose eggs in the bator. I culled 7 of the oldest eggs, there was nothing, not even a single vein showing on candling. this is day 13 and no way am i risking a goose egg blowout!!!!

setting eggs about 1x a week so the hatches are staggered a little.

My Gander is ignoring 3 of the hens. I may keep a gander and put him with the other 3 when he is old enough, or sell 2 hens possibly... 2 of the geese that normally go their own way. They don't stay with the rest of the flock. I noticed one of my scovies squatting today for the drake, finally! Then for my rooster, Red

geez, he doesn't care what it is! First it was the guineas, then the goose, now a duck?!?!? DH better have a talk with him

Been sitting here trying to think up a little poem about Red, but everything I come up with is completely inappropriate!

Just make sure you don't have a randy drake. You probably already know, drake body parts are incompatible to the detriment, and often death, of the chicken.

Just curious do you or have you ever used Demetrius Earth.... spelling? (DE). I realize it probably wouldn't be effective now but some swear by it. I bought some and add it to the big feeder when I fill it. Since its all natural I figure it can't hurt anything and might help. I know your aware of DE but what i'm curious about is if you have used it in the past and have still developed this worm problem.

With her devious thinking all of the things Roger manages to get into I am very thankful that she is not a rooster

way cool MC! Congrats! gotta feel good to have it done! also congrats for the new layer, hopefully your other gal will be all right, OK had an episode requiring attention last year, and it worked itself out... warm bath? I think... maybe a little light massage would help.

got the videos on the computer, and got my favorite one posted on FB, but I cannot figure out how to load it on here without loading it to youtube first... I can do that, but it would be so much easier if I could drag it and drop it... or load it like a picture... I'm still trying and it's getting late, may not get it loaded tonight.

I did have a episode that had simular symptons like MC described. I checked the vent area (visual only) and all looked clear. I picked her up and gently felt and rubbed her underside sort of a massage but at the same time feeling for knots or anything that didn't feel right. Actually I thought I might feel a bound egg but I didn't. When I sat her back down she took two steps, raised her tail in the air, and out came a soft shell egg right there before my eyes. Everything was normal from that point on. Hope that helps. If somebody knows different let me know but I think soft shell eggs are harder for them to lay because they can't "push" them so to speak. My thinking is that is the reason why I find the majority of the soft shell eggs are laid on the poop board during the night. They sit there for hours and are finally able to pass the soft shell egg. Just my thought and I might be totally wrong.

I need to read more about it, thanks! Glad you reminded me, Stanley, my drake is pretty big. He is usually afraid of any of the chickens but the pecking order has changed so much. He had his hormone switch flipped on and now the pecking order changed, again yesterday

I am splitting up the species altogether. LilX can still visit the pigs, but the birds are all getting separate coops. The geese are moved, guinea will be any day. Next is the muscovies. I need the big coop for the turkeys coming the 19th. lots of remodeling to do before they go outside with the big birds

No good news. She died this morning. She was not egg bound. The shell could have been soft, but it was only one green poo. Wouldn't there have been more? And it looks like she was laying. I admit I had not gotten a dozen in a week or so, but I assume it was because of all the banging when I was building the coop, and on bad days when I didn't go out early to build, they were shut in until about 11:00. I knew they had food, and didn't want out. I sure didn't want to go out! So I think that was effecting the laying.
I will post pictures later of the coop. I will TRY to get some of the new gang. They keep hiding from me. I may even post a pic of the dead girl. Just in case it inspires you to think of something.
