Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

my little Wrangler... who squats for Mylee?

The whole flock is used to her bursts of sudden energy and spontaneous screaming and running. they don't scatter anymore. For the most part, she's imitating me, and being quiet and gentle which I really love, but I'm not kidding myself... she's 3, she cannot always be that way. the chickens are certainly faster than she is, they don't have to let her catch them... she's always got one or another in her arms... and if not, she has a cat.

Today we went to the Secret Caverns in Howes Cave NY. it's only about 10 miles away, one mile up from the Howes Caverns. I like the Secret Caverns better. it's smaller, but less commercialized... they have a neat underground waterfall... it's natural, but modernized, it can be turned on and off... but it's still really cool! the best pic...

and wouldn't you know it... Mylee found a big salamander down there, and she just had to rescue it and carry it up all 103 steps to the surface and set it free in the flowers. at least she listened to me and didn't kiss it.

and I took a picture of something that reminded me of how I met OK here on byc... the owner of the cavern put in a cement walkway at the bottom level, and raccoon got in through a grotto and walked all over the nice new cement.

oh yeah... broody Violet is doing well and the girls laid 14 eggs today
0000 spelunking! Its just breathtaking, she is so lucky to have you, I can see her little face just beaming with smiles

She must be so much fun, i really miss little ones that age. I bet she has a ton of chickens herself when she grows up!

I've become one of "those" people

hehe I think we all have.

Okay I purchased eggs :) Waiting on confirmation when they ship....wow it is a cycle...It all started with me sitting on my hands waiting for chicks...now I get to sit on my hands and wait for eggs. I also am thinking about getting my silkie a friend. Should I name her yet? I was so glad I hadnt named them when the one died...now I feel bad because I call her lonely

just because she is inside and I don't want that to be her name.

W4W if any place can make you feel better, I think you have found it. Please take a ton of pictures especially of the wild chickens!

Showbarnmom that is some awful feet, that is all from mites? Beautiful guy though...he would make my husband laugh. I am itching to move someplace I could have a rooster.

Ok, you hanging in there?
Shipped eggs are such a challenge. Usually they make it ok, the detached air cells are the big problem I am seeing. Was Very disappointed in the ameraucana eggs I had shipped, none were fertile! I sent a message to the person letting them know.

Rain, Rain and some more RAIN. About 2.5 inches since yesterday. Garden loves it. Do they make Muck Boots for chickens?

SEVEN......Yesterday We Laid SEVEN Eggs..........Everybody But.....Rog.. not naming names. Dangerously close to a perfect day. No crowing yet (8 weeks old). Happy Thursday everybody.

the weather man has threatened us with 4 inches of rain today! that's insane. we will have flooding again if that happens.

JC, we had such a great time! she loves cave exploring... in Albuquerque, where she lives, the biggest caverns are nearby. but they are really different from the caves up here. quite a bit drier down there... our caves are drippy. she searches for pixie dust. the kid who led our tour (must have a guide for this cave) was trying to do his script and of course Mylee interrupts and he tried to get back to the script... I had to just tell him to skip it, do it for Mylee, I've been here a hundred times... it took him a few minutes and my help to "get it" about how to cater to a 3 year old girl. ("ooooh look at the pink lights...)
as for having chickens of her own... she already asked me to help her Daddy get some big girls to lay eggs and make chicks. she'll have a menagerie I am certain!

If we get rain like they are calling for...URGH

I am going to get my little silkie a friend I think, and I also ordered the shipped eggs....we shall see what happens. It sucks because I can only get seven eggs which is really hard to find so I end up contacting people privately to get a small batch . Everything in the auction is 12+ ...I can't take extras

Showbarnmom.....What do you use to wash the girls? I was going to bathe my silkie ....and I love how he is just sitting there looking at the camera.

I have noticed such a change in attitude since the girls are sick. Speaking of which...MC how is midnight?

Well, everything I read said mild shampoo/soap. Lots of suggestions for baby shampoo. I used a dime of dish soap and a generous squeeze of Aveno soothing bath oil/soap stuff. You can see the bottle in the picture. I think just for a general bath, I would use baby shampoo.

OK I don't have crowing from any of my baby chicks, I have 4 roos in that batch. I have two 21 week old boys and only one of them crows consistantly (the EE), the SLW one has only crowed one morning and we wish he'd switch places with the other one, as he has a nice sound and the EE sounds like wet bagpipes in the mud being stepped on. (you'd think it'd get BETTER but it hasn't)

We're expecting temps between 110 and 115 here this weekend. I'll let you know if everyone lives. They survived the last heat wave but that only rose to 108.
